A lot of users have complained about the Tour de Vizzed occurring too often so here's your chance to have your voice heard. If more people vote for Yes, then starting in 2018 the TdV will only occur twice a year which would be in January and July. If more people vote no, then we'll continue the tradition of having the TdV 4 times a year in January, April, July and October.

It should really only be once a year (preferably in July or extended it all summer long to make it more competitive). I say this because the real tour de france is also once a year and begins in July.

I'm also in the boat of once a year. If it was going to be biannual, I think it should be January and July, because those are the Olympic seasons. 

I think that we should indeed go with just two competitions a year, given how activity has been lately. Having less chances to participate will concentrate everyone's efforts, meaning a much closer competition should be expected, and those less chances to shine can probably make other users step up earlier than they expected in order to stand out.

Since this idea would leave April and October without a competition, there's a window of opportunity to introduce other competitions during those months (or any other month in the 5 month gap between each TdV). I'm not saying that we should bring back the VCS to make up, but I've heard several projects from different users that could make this site more appealing, and having such a big gap is the perfect chance to set something up without having users burned up from the TdV or getting ready for it.

I say once a year as well. Because I don't think it's good to keep going with 4 times a year it's not really that necessary....

Once a year sounds much better to me. Just place it during summer where we usually get our most traffic and extend to last all summer, with maybe every 4 week off so it isn't so long and exhausting.

I wouldn't want to go straight to once a year, I'd rather do twice a year first to see how that goes before going just once a year. The TdV still does help generate a lot of content and traffic and at this point that is something that Vizzed needs more than anything. The site is only averaging around 20 posts a day now but the TdV helps boost that a lot and helps get a lot of active threads going. Plus, as I said, the surge in content really helps the site out.

I'm not opposed to the idea though, I would just rather go down to twice a year first. If it went down to once a year, it'd probably be in July.

I agree with either once or twice a year. 4 times a year is just too much for the number of active users.

I'd prefer twice a year personally. Only once seems like it isn't often enough.

Also, if you drop how often it happens then you should update the new user qualifications for the white jersey. That might allow more people to compete for it.

I think it should only be twice a year because the April and October ones are always the most inactive. Plus, October is at the beginning of the school year and April is more towards the end which causes most users not to post.

What about every 4 months?

Most of our activity is during TdV.

If we drop to twice a year, then I'd change the qualification for white to have registered in the last 5-6 months. With the current format, any single user has the chance of participating in white (even though some combinations don't really allow to win it, as we've seen in previous competitions), and that's surely something we must keep.

Vanelan : Logic says we should first downgrade to three TdV a year, right, but the timing for competitions happening every 4 months isn't any better than the current one. The possible options are March-July-November or April-August-December, so we wouldn't really get any improvement other than having one more month of "cooldown".

Twice a year while keeping two of the most active months sounds far better, even if we miss up to a couple chances of having a boost in activity.

I vote yes though I would prefer having it once a year as well. While it's true that the TdV does bring activity to the site I also know that a lot of people avoid the site specifically because of the TdV. It's hard to have an actual discussion when people are more concerned about points which defeats the purpose of a forum in my view. It also has the unpleasant side effect of breeding drama. I think making it less frequent could add a bit of prestige to the competition and possibly result in more people participating though it's difficult to say with the current site activity.

If TdV brings in more traffic, instead of having it twice a year for a month or however long those go, have it once all year. If it's going on all year, then the traffic boost should be much better than limiting it.

If its March and July, we get spring break and summer vacation.
November would be a kinda meh month... but for March and July, I think it would be worthwhile.

Ok so it's official. The Tour de Vizzed will be biannual for the time being.

geeogree : Yeah in the next Tour de Vizzed, I'll have to remember to increase it to 6 months from 3 months.

It shouldn't land on different months... it would be every 4 months.

I do like the outcome anyways so its cool it would be twice a year its better than 4 times a year. People would at least have time to get ready for them.

Late replying, but I also believe that the TDV is better off having been taken down to twice a year. The whole competition's pretty much been synonymous with on-site drama that also spills over into other private areas and, while I think the real blame falls on an inability for participants to maintain a certain level of sportsmanship instead of the competition itself, I'm hoping the lesser frequency will reduce that drama and also make it somewhat more interesting. It's a little like going to your favorite place to eat more than twice a week for a month straight. After a while, it's just not special anymore and you kinduh grow to hate it.
