Angry Birds Epic Review by: zanderlex - 9.3/10
Even AngrierI never thought that i could find a mobile game that was more fun than Angry Birds. Well I didn't, that's because this is Angry Birds. Though in my opinion, I would definitely say that I like this one more than the original game because it takes some of my favorite aspects of a game and blends them together with one of the most iconic mobile games of all time. When I first downloaded this game, I thought it would be the sane as the original game only with new levels, but what I saw turned out to be the complete opposite of what I was expecting and I'm really glad that I downloaded this game or else I would have never found out about it.
GRAPHICS 8/10
The graphics are really good, especially for a mobile game. The graphics of the original were good so you would have thought that a newer game would have better graphics and that's just about what happens here. However, you can't really use the same graphics because you aren't doing the same thing in the game. Instead of a bland level
selector with a background, in this game to move between levels you actually have to touch different levels on a map and you even get to move around this map. Just that alone is a huge upgrade in my opinion and that's not all there is. The levels in the original game were just a simple background, some structures, and characters but this game builds off that and makes it better. Each level of this game comes equipped with its own unique battleground like area. Now you can't move around in the game which is a negative spot, but in terms of how it looks, it's great. My grade for graphics is going to be an 8 out of 10.
SOUND 10/10
When it comes to the sounds of the game, it can't really get any worse than the original game can it? It can only get better and that's the case with this one. There was nothing wrong with the sounds in the first game but in this one a lot more is added to make the game sound even better, its not just birds squawking and structures falling anymore, now you have a variety of other sounds that have been added. Then of course, you have the music if the game which is just like that of the original one, awesome. In the first game, the music was one of the aspects that had made the game so popular and I wouldn't say that the music here is as good as that of the older ones, its still amazing and fun to listen to. I can really listen to the Angry Birds music for hours at a time because its so good and my grade for this aspect is going to have to be a perfect 10 out of 10.
ADDICTIVENESS 10/10
Just because you aren't doing the same thing you did in the original game doesn't mean that it can't be just as fun. As a matter of fact, I would say that I like this game more because of the fighting gameplay. Sure, the first one had something unique and was a lot of fun, but this took a new spin and offered something that I liked. This game works as a turn based fighting game that pit the birds against the pigs and its a lot of fun because fighting games like this are a lot of fun and it makes me think of some RPG's like Final Fantasy. Of course it would be a lot of fun to be able to actually move across a terrain, but lets face it, something like that would never happen in Angry Birds as they aren't known for open world exploration in the slightest. Still, the game goes above and beyond to make sure that once you start playing the game, that you don't want to put it back down. This is the kind of game that you can play over and over for an hour at a time and for that I'm going to give this aspect yet another perfect 10 out of 10.
STORY 7/10
Like with the first game, I paid no attention to any of the cut scenes that were thrown around the game because I just wanted to get into the game itself because even though there's more to the game, its still mainly a gameplay video game that's meant to be played for what's in the game. There is an upgrade though because instead of just flying through the air and knocking down structures to take down the pigs, you get to actually fight them and when it comes to the why, its a bit better than the first game in my opinion, but it still doesn't really matter much. My grade for story is going to be a 7 out of 10.
DEPTH 10/10
I wouldn't say that this game has more depth than the first game, but it still has a lot, probably more than most other games, especially when it comes to mobile games. The first game came with hundreds of different levels which is what made that game have so much depth and I'm not too sure how much this game has because you cant see past the first world I believe, so I'm not even sure if there are any other levels past that at all. Even if there aren't that many levels, there's still a lot to the game in the fighting department since you get to play with different birds and have different moves and abilities and there's all sorts of small things around the game to make it seem bigger than it really is which is good. In my opinion, if the game is small but seems big, then the developers have done a good job with it and for that my grade will be another perfect 10 out of 10.
DIFFICULTY 2
If anything, this game is even easier than the original because now you don't have to worry about finding the right trajectory and the perfect speed and you don't have to worry about the structures falling in the wrong direction. This is all fighting which not only is it fun, its a lot easier because all you have to do is pick the best combination of attacks, abilities, items, and so on. Yes there can be a few battles that are really tough and you could lose a bunch of fights, but unless you are already really bad at fighting games that are like this, then you probably wont have to retry some of the harder levels more than 2 or 3 times, opposed to dozens of times. It's not the easiest game that you can play, but it is easy both in general and when you compare it to the original game so my grade for difficulty is going to be a 2.
OVERALL 9.3/10
Overall, this game has what it takes to be an iconic game like it's parent and I wouldn't be surprised if it becomes a classic really soon. If you are like me and heard of the game but thought it was like the original then I suggest that you give it a shot because if you did think it was like the original then you are in for a fun surprise. The game has a lot of potential and I really enjoy playing it so my overall grade for Angry Birds Epic is going to be a 9.3 out of 10.
