Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings Review by: deggle - 9.2/10
Revenant WingiesWelcome to my review :Revenant Wings is another sequel to another great game of the series named Final Fantasy this game was released on November 27th 2007 by Square Enix well that's pretty much the base information so hold on to your seats as this airship is about to take off. So if you are a big or small fan of the FF series you will very much enjoy this overwhelming adventure with this exhilarating strategy action RPG.
Graphics 9
The graphics in this game were by far the best graphics I’ve seen for a DS game as well the awesome CG cut scenes that had great quality you could only know Square made, the types of local maps and such are very vivid and the types of assorted characters as they may be small units/sprites as well as monsters they are super detailed and animated the battle maps are also in great animated form and to also show as much background items and things. And the pictured face busts are very detailed like made from a painting.
Bad things:
Actually since the graphics on this game were so focused on there wasn’t a ton of complaints from me. Except when monsters or the summoned helpers moved in overly large groups that I makes a pretty big graphical slowdown and makes the game lag. But something was amiss as teenager Vaan and friends and 20 something Baltheir’s Cg figures are actually ten year olds? The art designs for these kinds of scenes are great but also absurd so Enix please never try to morph characters into these things again.
Sound/Music 9
If you are a big fan of the soundtrack from the previous game you’ll love this one as the tracks are almost identical even some of the songs are actually straight from the previous installment as the music in this game are very Heartwarming and melodic some of them may be very depressing sounding but will always make you feel relaxed, calm, and cheery. The Sound effects that exactly match the actions in the game were perfect from the slash of a sword to the choosing of your characters for battle.
Disappointments:
Things that disappointed me about this game is that they took off the voice acting which was a large surprise. Some more bad things about this were the lacking of a LARGE soundtrack as this game did have great music 85% was about all from the previous game so all we can say is that they synthesized the songs to a DS’s standards and added a few new songs and that just about sums it up.
Addictiveness 9:
This game was very exciting and fun I probably beat it twice now going on three due to the very fun battle scenes and stuff to go around. There are a lot of characters to choose from at least every playable character in from the first game but by putting them all into a new scenario is what made their stories deepen.
Not Addicting :
This game was basically complete fun and such but the only thing we need is some Mini Games to add in more fun the way you could choose which Espers to summon too help you in battle was cool but it didn’t give you enough things to play around with in the game as you can re excess a map to play through it again either for a quest or for leveling up. Just not enough things to make most players stay to actually finish this game.
Depth 9 :
This game offers a lot of gameplay and hours to play through there are lots of side quests to complete to make more story progressions and to meet a lot more characters to rival with and who might assist you later on in the game. The fast-paced battle system is easy to keep up with story to challenge you 30 hours, not including all that extra time you could put into completing side quests, forging pacts with espers, and earning all of the trophies.
Camera 3:
Okay the camera work is not as good as in this game you cannot exactly do a lot with it as in rolling terms you can move around the whole map but that’s pretty much all you can do with it I did have hopes that you could still roll the camera to make it easier to see most corners and stuff but sadly they took that away.
Difficulty 9
This game is not overly difficult but during the beginning the game will make you rage quit a few times but don’t stop there during the later missions this game will make you rip your hair out piece by piece from anger and such I blame this mostly on side quests as they can actually be the most difficult pieces to this game. Story progression missions were also one of the most hardest things for this game and here is a bit of info on how they work you must defeat all enemy leaders, look for a specific item on the field, and defend your team’s soul crystal while attempting to destroy the enemy’s, or keep certain characters you meet alive until the end of the battle. Just a piece of advice the final mission of this game totally requires you to at least grind yourself too lv.100 or the final battle is almost physically impossible.
Story 9 :
Revenant Wings is divided up into 10 chapters, each of which consist with about 4-6 missions. Every new mission will provide more detail on the deep and exciting story with both in-game and CG cut scenes, and between them you'll be free to travel across the world and beyond in your airship. The story starts about 1 year after the previous game with Vaan and friends finding a strange airship near Rabanastre that you “Borrow” and you and your team go travelling around the world and a newly discovered haven inhabited by Featherfolk.
Final Verdict :
I feel Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings successfully takes the role-playing game pizazz and style that will blow you away in awe and love for it and this game is a great balanced RPG with Strategy and Action involved. With this review I hope to have shown all the points that I have made but it’s to you to decide if you want to play this game or not.
