Earthbound is an obviously great game. Even from the first time you see it, you know it's something different. And the first time you boot up the game (or load it in the emulator, in the RGR's case) and hear that sweet intro theme, you know its going to be a very special game. Lets get into some of the categories of the review.

Graphics: I give graphics a 9. Sure, there have been games with greater graphics, even on the SNES, but EarthBound has a unique stylized kind of look that other games never imitated. It looks cartoony, and it's easily recognizable. The character sprites are easy to distinguish, as they stick out from the environments they're in.

Sound: I give the sound in this game a 10. The music in the game is impeccable, and as iconic and recognizable as the graphical work in the game. The song "Because I Love You" is especially notable for being a very feels-inducing track. The soundtrack definitely has the feeling that each area it plays in is going for: from the mystery of a dark, unexplored cave, to the peace of a sanctuary, to the hustle and bustle of a big city, and the tranquil peace of a small town, every song goes with the locale it plays in.

Addictiveness: I give addictiveness a 7. This game is plenty of fun, and you can play it for long periods of time. However, there are some parts of the game that simply make you not want to play, especially when the difficulty ramps up. And trust me, there are difficulty spikes, but Ill get to that in the coinciding section. However, if you're determined to beat the game, it is able to be done, of course.

Story: I give story a 9. The reason I give story a 9 is because of how it connects to the stories of Mother 1 and Mother 3. The story of the game alone is fairly good on its own, however. A meteor strikes the hilltop outside of protagonist Ness's house. Investigating, he is told by a space alien named Buzz-Buzz that Giygas, the "Universal Cosmic Destroyer", is trying to destroy the Earth, and Ness, along with three others, must put a stop to Giygas's conquest of the Earth.

Depth: I give the game's depth a 10. This game, even if it is linear, has a ton of things to do, all of which are fun and satisfying. There are rare drops from certain enemies that are extremely satisfying to get. And there are plenty of rewarding sidequests which can net you rare items.

Difficulty: 8. I give this games difficulty an 8. This game, at times, can be challenging. Of course, most games are challenging. But this game feels rewarding for when you finally overcome that one boss fight you've been struggling with.

Overall, this is a wonderful game, and it has definitely had love put into it. All the little details of this game make it a wonderful experience to play.

Don't hate me for saying this, but I thought 7 was the greatest out of those I have played (1, 4, 6, 7.) Although I haven't beaten any of them, I have gotten a feel for the gameplay in each of them and have had the most fun with VII. It also has GREAT character, dialogue, and the really innovative Materia system.

Hello! I'm Rupeescreamer. I saw this website while searching for ROMs online and i decided to give it a try. It is a very cool site! It makes the whole process of playing ROMs on emulators much quicker and easier. I have played quite a few games already, my favorite being EarthBound. I will continue to use this site for a while and have already recommended people to it. Thank you for creating such a great website!
