Alright everyone-- as a combined force, you found all of the mistakes, but there wasn't an individual person that got all three.  The three mistakes are as follows:

1.  "Marios" needs an apostrophe because it is a possessive modifier.
2.  The goombas weren't doing the jumping, so there is a misplaced modifier.
3.  "of" is an unnecessary preposition since it doesn't add any more information to the sentence.

Therefore, one way to rewrite this sentence is:

By making stellar jumps off floating blocks, Mario flattened the goombas with his fall.
Good work to those of you who found those mistakes.  I think all of you got the missing apostrophe and lots of you caught the preposition.  A handful of you caught the misplaced modifier, which is one of the most subtle English grammar quirks.

Sorry it took so long to get the answer out to you-- just had a lot of projects to do.  Congrats!

danielbelitch: Sorry for the confusion.  Naturally the sentence sounds strange since you only caught one of the intended mistakes.  The article isn't necessary.  Since goomba is a species name, it doesn't require capitalization, just like how you wouldn't capitalize the word 'human.'  You are absolutely right in adding an apostrophe to 'Marios.'  With regard to how to fix the problems, you are welcome to either fix the sentence or enumerate the mistakes.  Good job on finding one of the mistakes thus far.

I'm curious to see how well everybody knows their grammar rules, especially the harder ones.  So the way this will work is I'll post a sentence with multiple grammatical errors in it.  Your job is to post the corrected sentence and provide a short explanation of your corrections.  The challenge will be to find all of the mistakes.  Since this is a site all about video games and cartoons, all of the sentences will be based on them.

Do you think you're ready?  Good luck!

The following sentence has 3 mistakes, 1 easy, 1 intermediate, 1 hard:

"By making stellar jumps off of floating blocks, the goombas were flattened by Marios fall."

Good luck everybody!

AuraBlaze : Thanks for the tip.  I had read about summoning earlier but figured that only worked to summon mods.  I appreciate the advice, and I'll keep looking around.

Silverclaw454 : Well, that's ironic; my wife has Asperger's Syndrome.  She's actually finishing her degree this April.  So, if you need evidence that college is endurable and love is possible for you, my wife will attest to it.

Osayioniwabo - I can understand the way you feel.  It didn't seem like any girl was interested in me.  Now I'm in the best relationship of my life.  My wife also felt that no guy would ever ask her out.  She hated Valentine's day until we started dating.  I also have a friend that tried dating several girls (I heard about it every weekend), and now he's in a very happy relationship.  So, I guess what I'm trying to say is, be patient; the one you end up with will come along.

Well, I gave my wife a bag of candy hearts from the campus candy counter and a small box of fudge. She knows that we don't have a lot of money, so it's the best I can do in terms of gifts.  She tells me that she is planning something for dinner, and I'll probably write her a love note.

The last movie I saw was August Rush.  I thought it was a pretty good movie, except for the ending, which I thought was a little bit illogical.  Then again, I think I'm a bit more cynical than most.  The lighting was phenomenal.  (I like making films, so I watch for those kinds of things)

AuraBlaze - Thanks for the welcome.  Now that you mention it, there have been quite a few times when the site doesn't seem to work consistently, but you don't look a gift horse in the mouth, eh?  I hope to become more involved in the forums, but do you have any suggestions on where to start?  There are so many options, and I've glanced around but am having a hard time jumping in head first.

Silverclaw454 - My mom went to a Catholic girls school.  That's pretty cool.  I didn't know you had to do volunteer hours there.  College is such a completely different creature than high school-- it's harder, but it's where you finally begin to direct your future exactly the way you want to.  It's totally worth it.  I've met some great friends and even met my wife there.

I've noticed that I only fall asleep when I've gotten a full night's rest.  And it almost always happens with certain professors.  I've tried using caffeine and sugar, but that always makes me crash harder.

I'm in my last semester of a BS in Computer Engineering with an emphasis on embedded system programming and signal processing.  I have also completed a minor in Mathematics.  I plan to go to graduate school and get a PhD.  The next step after that is to find a top-level design position at Rincon, L3, or similarly focused companies so I can really make a difference in my field.

Iaian - Thanks for the welcome!

Silverclaw454 - I'm looking forward to getting to know the community.  It's funny you should mention the Newbie Test; like you expected, I breezed right through it, but my Internet was a little on the fritz, so I ended up submitting the quiz three times because the form submission kept timing out.  So, I think I definitely know all the answers for the Newbie Quiz now.  What year in High School are you?  Are you planning on going to college too?

Hi everyone,

I'm a senior college student studying Computer Engineering. I'm getting close to graduating and have been working on my senior project programming an autonomous RC car that will play laser tag and capture the flag.

I found vizzed.com when I was looking to play the original Final Fantasy game online.  Never did I dream that I would stumble upon what I consider to be the motherlode of retro gaming.  Not long after getting my Final Fantasy fix, I indulged in some Zelda: Link to the Past, a touch of Megaman X, and a load of Pokemon Fire Red.  Since then I'd been playing my childhood favorites and even some newer ones that I'd missed since starting college.  I decided to register finally, especially with the new RGR plugin update removing saving capabilities for guests.

My favorite games categories are Zelda, Yu-Gi-Oh, Megaman X, Sonic the Hedgehog, Final Fantasy, Dragonball Z, Pokemon, and Digimon.  I'm sure there are more, but I can't think of any off the top of my head.

In any case, I'm glad to be here.  Thanks for having me.
