How do I use shield? I have, under settings, 'trigger r' is set to 'r' but when I try to block with my shield (my shield is equipped by the way) and press R it doesn't work Do I need to use R?

I've been loading this game well for a few days now, and just today, I played this morning like an hour ago, and then saved and closed out of the window for about 10 minutes. I come back to use it, and I find out that my saved file is completely gone. It just has the options of 'new game' or 'options'. What might be the problem? I try hitting the f4 button but it says 'saved download failed'. what is the problem? I have just been saving using the game's save, and not f2.
