I would go with a fire, water, electric, grass, pyschic, and ground type to round out my team.  It would be so much fun going on an adventure with them and becoming stronger and stronger.

It seemed to be a pretty entertaining game.  Though you wish you could steal someone's Pokémon the amount of fire Pokémon you can catch at the beginning of the game as well as Charmander is awesome!  Maybe add in some stealing and add in goals that you can achieve like steal so many Pokémon and see Giovanni for a special goal and get something like money or even rare Pokémon.
