Well, I wasn't breast-fed, so that disputes your statement that everyone was breast-fed.

However "natural" it may be, I think it should be done discreetly. Some shopping centers have rooms dedicated to that; otherwise it's not hard to bring a blanket to cover your baby while he's drinking.

But then, it might be my North American upbringing talking, where sexuality is such a taboo. Places like France seem much less prudish on the subject.

janus : I was in public yesterday (it doesn't happen often) and I noticed a woman breastfeeding and the entire time she did it I could barely tell it was happening. Obviously I didn't stare or anything but it is possible to do discreetly in public without a cover. I personally think it should be done more often (but not the crazy 100 mom sit-ins where they take over a store) so that it becomes a more normal thing again.
