Okay, I've seen a lot of things lately, but nothing intrigues me more than this issue. If you've been to any Sonic-related board on gamefaqs.com, you more than likely stumbled upon members arguing with each other over what Sonic should be. Examples of these arguments:

-Sonic is too fast/too slow/perfect speed
-Too many/not enough characters
-Gameplay too good/horrible
-Sonic better on the 16-bit games/current games

And that's just to name a few. So I want to hear your opinion on the blue blur. What do you think makes a good Sonic game? Feel free to use examples where necessary, but please, try to use games from both past and present, not just the current generation.

Personally, I think Sonic's fine as is, but that's just my opinion.

You know what I hate about Sonic?

The fact that he needs a peripheral EVERY single game, and the fact he needs an anime? God no. Though it is hillarious to see people moaning about Jason Griffith.

But the main problem is how Sega treats Sonic like a spoiled child, while porting Chu Chu Rocket to XBLA or PSN is too hard for them or making Jet Set Radio sequel.

Well, Sonic IS Sega's mascot. They have to try and keep him afloat somehow.

Sonic does need improvement and we saw a glimpse of hope in Unleashed but there are still errors in that game mostly with the werehog not to mention other games like 06 and Shadow.Hopefully this new game Neddlemouse(current title)can take the series back to the old days like sonic 1,2, and 3.We shall see.

They have kept him afloat with the millions they sell per game.

But the funny part, Sega could care less if the game gets a 43 or 32 on Metacritic, because their only excuse is "Well Kids Like It"

Seriously, is it too damn hard for Sega to remake a Lord of Vermillion game or Vectorman?

You're thinking Sonic CD, pal. And Sonic isn't exactly a regular hedgehog as much as Tails isn't a regular fox. (The two-tails thing, I can see as logically plausible, but using them to fly is another matter entirely.)

Didowe, check the Game Gear. May not be a series, but Tails does have a couple of games for him there. One's Japan only, one's U.S. only.

Heartless, my only thing with Project Needlemouse is that it's not on the Wii last I heard, and I only have a Wii. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong on that.)

xfighter, how popular WAS Vectorman? How popular WAS Lord of Vermillion? I had Vectorman 2, so that series probably could get a remake, but I've never heard of Lord of Vermillion. But this isn't about those games, this is about Sonic the Hedgehog. Stay on topic.

Lord of Vermillion has gotten a decent fanbase, though you really needed to have a Genesis to know the game.

Though one unrelated to the games is that it disgusts me us the hentai people make out of it. Who knew a series by Sega could make such atrocious images?

Though what I really hate is how people b**** and moan about Jason Griffith like he's the goshdarn devil.

Though I think a normal Sonic game without any special transformations or him with a gun or sword would be terrific.
Though at least I can thank Sega for porting their classics onto the consoles.

Actually, I have a Genesis, and I never even heard of it.

The hentai... people just like to draw stuff like that out of almost anything. Look up (show name) hentai or (videogame name) hentai, you're almost guaranteed to find something on it.

I don't really care who voices Sonic, long as they don't butcher his voice to heck.

And a normal Sonic game without special transformations (outside of maybe his normal Super form) and unarmed would please the original fans, but the newer fans would complain that Sega's just fulfilling the nostalgic dreams of the original fans and b**** and moan about that game for that reason. What are your thoughts on this?

You got me there

Though it's hard to please a crowd full of nostalgic gamers and newer gamers, kinda like what happened to the Wii. Though I think Sega has already answered to the nostalgic with Needlemouse, Sega knows that the only way they'll get profit is to make more Sonic.

As a GSP major in college, my thoughts on what Sega should do is not try to please everyone with one single game. With how varied the opinions are, this would be nearly impossible. (I mean, how hard do you think it would be if people think Sonic is not only too fast, but also too slow?) Instead, they should actually THINK for once about how to get the best general response on their games without resorting to extremes. It wouldn't please everybody, but it would (hopefully) be enough to get Sonic back on his feet.

Something else that just struck my mind. Sonic Chronicles. Should Bioware make a sequel to this game?

I think I remember someone at Bioware saying that they'll make a sequel if they sell enough copies. Though they should make a sequel to it, seeing as Bioware actually know how to make impressive RPG's.

The only thing I didn't like about Sonic Chronicles is the lack of replay value. After beating it once, I just couldn't go through it a second time. I only replayed it for Chao completion.

I really enjoyed the Sonic series as a 2-D side-scroller. It was easier when you didn't have multiple directions to go. Once it started going 3-D it seemed to get progressively worse, as told by several people on and offline.

This is all I'm going to say to that post: Some people will agree with you on that, while others will strongly disagree with you, as already noted in other Sonic-related threads on this site. Personally, I found those "sucky" 3-D games to be fun to play. Maybe I just don't have much time on my hands, maybe I have a bad opinion in your opinion, but I honestly could care less what you think of my opinion because it is my opinion and I have every right to it as much as you do your own. ^_~

Edit: ...wow, did I really shut the thread up with that? Didn't intend to.

You mean replay, not reply.

Length =/= replay value. Replay value is one's ability to play through the game again and again. Sonic games aren't meant to be long because Sonic would get bored too easily. It is possible to make a short game with high replay value. It's called branching paths, something that really hasn't been done in a Sonic game since Shadow the Hedgehog. Of course, even with branching paths, if a game doesn't have at least decent graphics, gameplay, controls, and sound (among other factors), it doesn't matter how many paths you put in a game, it's still gonna suck. Even Sonic Chronicles, probably one of the longest games that's come out since Heroes, doesn't have the replay value, especially since you lose the challenge in the game after beating it once and have to start a regular new game to get that back. If they'd reduced the levels to 1, but allowed you to keep everything else, THEN maybe it would've gained some replay value, but that isn't the case here.

Oh, and while we're on the subject of levels, do you remember the old games? Mario had 32 (completable) levels in the first game. At best, Sonic had 25 levels, and this was in the Sonic 3 and Knuckles lock-on. Both games had the same replay value. Why? Mario, the longer game, was Nintendo Hard. Sonic, the shorter game, had multiple paths in the levels (high, middle, and low road) AND allowed you to complete the game as multiple characters. You could replay it with different characters and utilize their different skills to get through the levels. While some of the more current Sonic games have done that, they don't let you use the character for the whole game like the old games did. If Sega did something like they did for Sonic 3 and Knuckles, that would be a game truly worth playing in my eyes. But I'm sure fewer people than I'd like share this opinion, so Sega will probably never do it. But I can dream...

Edit: Just remembered, Sonic Advanced 1 and 2 did allow for this to happen. Sonic Advanced 3... not so much, really. They did allow you to change your character, but this is sometimes forced if you want to go for 100% completion. In other words, you won't be using a team of Tails and Sonic (no, I didn't order this backwards, this would be the tag team I prefer) for the whole game; you'll need the help of Knuckles or other characters on occasion. Sonic Advanced 1 and 2 allowed you to play through the game like S3K did, but completing it 100% for all characters is still required to get 100% for the game, and in Advanced 2 is a requirement to unlock a character. (I am not 100% on Advanced 1's unlocks, as I have yet to even beat the game and haven't found the time to do so yet.)

How do battles against spaceships using lasers fit with the Sonic series? Best I've seen in terms of spacecraft are those wild machinations Eggman comes up with, the ARK, Black Doom's vessel, and the Tornado. I'm probably missing one or two, but there isn't anywhere NEAR enough to warrant making a Sonic/Starfox crossover.

Even if there was, it's not my call. I am in no way affiliated with either series and therefore have minimal, if any, influence in the direction these two series go in. Besides, I think the two are in completely different star systems.
