As a whole, I'd say the older games had a better concept and were generally more fun. Games these days tend to be so graphics focused, they the gameplay/storyline gets largely ignored. Sure, the 8-bit games were all pixelated, but they were at least colorful and had simple, yet flexible controls (compare Super Mario 3 to Super Mario 64). Don't get me wrong, some of the new games are fun, and sometimes graphics genuinely make the game better. Also, with all the simulation technology, games are becoming more realistic, which is fine if you are into that sort of thing (though sometimes it just feels TOO realistic). I like my platformers 2D, my racing games with weapons of death, my fighting games with REAL differences between the stages and charactors, and my shooters in 1st person view with few exceptions.

I like the old Rpg games like Final Fantasy, Pokemon Crystal, and all the other ones, but i like more of the newer shooting games like Call Of Duty games.

Sorry if I sound corny for this, but....

I like games for the emotion, i.e.: excitement, plot twists, sadness, and overall joy. But I also love good story lines and good characters.

I feel that with the new graphics and sounds and stuff like that, that emotion can be funneled more efficiently between yourself and the TV.

I also agree that older games had better story lines, but could this be because newer games are running out of ideas? Were the older games so widespread among their genres and ideas that newer games can't even respond anymore? This is just my opinion.....

I personally enjoyed older games and systems compared to the ones currently on the market. I recently had my 2nd xbox 360 break on me, due to a disk drive failure. I just don't recall experiencing half the problems we do today with the cartridges from nes/snes.

Well i am 17 and i'm kind of mixed on this/ I love good looking games but i don't like games that i feel are stupid or have little or no storyline (such an example is farcry 2 i liked the first ones but even tho 2 had great graphics i didn't like it at all). I mean i use dosbox to relieve old favorites and such programs as eduke32 zdoom newwolf ect. I agree that games today along with movies focus to much on special effects and graphics. if you ask me thats what made star wars 1 2 and 3 not as good as 4 5 and 6, they focused a lot on the effects but not enough on the time and story lines.

I like them both. Not every old game is good and not every new game is bad. You just gotta take what you can from each generation of gaming. We the consumers are the ones who control the industry so if you want better games don't buy into the hype of the crappy games....like Halo
