janus :

I am sure the Confucius peace prize given by the China in opposition to the Nobel peace prize have been more into your liking. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confucius_Peace_Prize

Like the good people like so far:

Lien Chan: (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lien_Chan) A taiwanese "nationalist" claiming the rights of the Communist Party of China in Taiwan. In 2010.

Vladimir Putin. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vladimir_Putin) The russian overlord and modern day Stalin, the friend of all children and democracy. In 2011.

Nomines for the next prize are Kofi Annan, Bill Gates, Yuan Longping, Gyancain Norbu, Ban Ki-moon, Thai prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra, Chinese philosopher Tang Yijie, and Wang Dingguo, the last surviving female participant in Mao Zedong's Long March.

"My linking"? This prize is just what the Nobel Peace Prize has become

All I'm saying is that the committee needs to get serious. Obama, Gore, the IPCC and Arafat have done nothing for peace

Dont know about your linking. My links were pretty good if you clicked them.

Obama, though he is a warlord like W, he has not so far started any new wars and has atleast tried to bring your troops back home. Ofcource he broke his promise of shutting down Guantanamo. But what I said in the first place, he was given the award way too early, just based on his promises. Not thinking if he could actually pull anything off. Though his promises only of more peaceful diplomacy after the bush regime were almost enough to give anyone after him the award.

As for Al Gore. He got his award together with Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Yes, you can argue if enviermental issues are actually something having to do with world peace, but sure it is something that affects every nation on earth. And yes, I have (also) a problem with some rich american trying to talk about these issues and flying himself with his private jet to give highly paid lectures about how flying with planes is bad.. but the fact is: Who else is in this world anyone in power going to listen except for a rich american. So I guess he has done his fair share though he has not stopped a single war.

And as for Arafat. He got his prize already in 1994. Back then, well, the issues with palestinians and the israelis were different and yet very much the same these days but he atleast tried to open things for discussion. He was hard but you must also see that he tried to have a more gentler aproach wich was oppesed by many palestinian gropups which are now, after his death, more hardcore than ever.

And to be really fair. I didnt think the European union did deserve the peaceprize either, since the whole union is falling apart in its seams and is not fair to smaller countries and it has already put big business over human rights in many issues. And I think Martti Ahtisaari got his prize out of pity or it was a slow year. Though he is way better as a do-gooder than he ever was as president.

"He has not so far started any new wars"

Syria, Libya... what are they?

" he was given the award way too early, just based on his promises"

He was given his prize because he wasn't Bush and wasn't a Democrat. NO Republican could have done what he did without having mass protest every day

" So I guess he has done his fair share though he has not stopped a single war."

With his environmental zeal, Gore has actually contributed to create (or at least, degrade states of peace) hostile climates (political ones) around the world. Based on "science" weaker than a creationist's, his call for more government (and therefore less freedom) has done nothing good

"I didn't think the European union did deserve the peace prize either, since the whole union is falling apart in its seams and is not fair to smaller countries and it has already put big business over human rights in many issues"

I would agree based on its imperialistic policies. However, a politics professor stood by the EU by saying "It was created to stop wars among Western Europe nations". So on that point, it was indeed worth a prize

Syria and Libya are/were civil wars that have nothing to do with Obama. Or the United States. Libyan rebels got Nato air support but long after the war had started. In Syria it is still only a civil war, though Russia keeps on supplying the goverment with guns and has together with China stopped any means of military interfearence by the UN in the war. Let alone Nato or the Usa have taken any part in the conflict.

I agree with you there, like I think I said, he got his prize becasue he was not Bush. How much the norweigans who decide these things care for anything about who is republican and who is not, I have no idea. Though at that point when he was given the prize, he hadnt really done anything. Sure he was in a war but those wars were started by Bush.

Nobody atleast outside USA sees Gore like that. At worst he is maybe seen like the "manbearpig" guy in south park, if you disagree with the theory of climate change, but I seriously doubt he has made any "hostile political climate" that would atleast contribute to actual war. By the way, what does creationism has to do with anything?

And for the EU. Yes, that was the idea but that was European communities which ceased to exist in 1993 and turned into European Union. So its kinda late for the prize.

Crazy Li : Osama was unarmed and was not "sniped" they broke into the home he was hiding in, Osama tried escaping by pushing a woman in front of the seal team.  They could have taken him (possibly)  and put him on trial and possibly gotten more information out of him on the whereabouts of other terrorists or future terrorist plans
but were instead ordered to shoot on sight.
