thekeyprotector : You would think the whole "Get people to donate to help the site" idea would work, but it doesn't . Here is a prime example. Netplay has probably been the most demanded and anticipated feature for the retro game room for a LONG time. In January, David made an announcement that he wants it on now and just needs donations. Not only that, but GoDaddy (the host server he used to go with) was offering a server with the bandwidth capable of handling disc games for no extra cost (some incentive thing). So he included in the announcement that with enough donations, they could get Dreamcast, PS1, and GameCube as possible working emulators for the plugin if it got donations. Just to put those emulators and netplay on would have costed roughly $6,000. The site got a grand total of..... drum role...... $224 in donations. So yeah, this was David making the announcement, and people still were unwilling to donate. And now that he left GoDaddy (because they sucked royally and screwed up the site constantly), that super server for no extra cost is off the table. Now, it isn't like he can purchase the server and that be the only cost. It is a monthly cost thing. The monthly costs of that kind of server would bleed him dry in no time. So unless you can get people to donate a combined $2000ish a month, it isn't going to be affordable.

I will close this as it really is a topic that has been discussed more times than I can count.

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
