I installed Avast! but i tried to uninstall AVG but it won't uninstall. I have tried to uninstall AVG free 8.0 multiple times but it says
"Local machine: installation failed
Installation:
Error: Action failed for file avgemc.exe: creating backup....
Error 0x80070002 %DESTINATION% = "C:Program FilesAVGAVG8avgemc.exe.install_backup_1", %SOURCE% = "C:Program FilesAVGAVG8avgemc.exe""

Now i have 2 anti viruses with 1 being sucky and 1 being what i want to use. I need help because my computer is RIDICULOUSLY laggy. Please help me! I'll forward you 300 Viz for help. Thank you so much!

You sir are an idiot. Vista WAS buggy, but with the release of Service Pack 1 90% of bugs were fixed you idiot. God fan boys anger me.

Rasen, try use the AVG Free install to repair the installation then try to uninstall it. Failing that you might have to remove the files manually and hunt through the Registry manually and remove it there.

honestly though, Avast and AVG are both inferior. You make like to reconsider your anti-virus.

Vista still sucks but yeah. It's not NEAR as bad as it was without service pack #1, which is what i use. I found a way to delete AVG. It was thanks to a guy on Youtube. It was complex. I didn't uninstall it, but rather delete it. Unfortunatly, it still uses up about 30 mega bites on my PC but it is no longer there or active. There is 0% of AVG left but it is still installed. It's weird. But hey! I got it off. I can't complain...much....

And for the next time: Never and I mean NEVER INSTALL MORE THAN 1 ANTIVIRUS!

Get rid of the first one first and then install the next.

Its true, just like with firewall software. They are major programs that are doing delicate operations. You have two of them going its like having 2 Sushi chefs on the same grill - someones gonna lose a finger.

Thanks for the advice. But, I was going to uninstall AVG first but it wouldn't uninstall. So, i did the moron idea: I installed AVAST! anyway. That was a moron move on my part. OK. So.... is avira better than AVAST! and is it free? Does it actually...i dunno...delete viruses?

avira has a free version, but if i recall it doesnt update well or often or something else.
and i dont think any of the "free" AV's delete viruses by default, they opt to "heal".
thats something id like to see an end too.
as far as best, there are alot of comparisons, most say the 3 A's are the top 3 anyway in free AV's.
obviously i mean AVG, Avast! and Avira.

Yeah, I was about to say "OMG NO DON'T EVER INSTALL TWO AT ONCE" but I've been beaten to that, I can see. You're lucky your computer didn't crash.

I should really talk to my flatmates about using Kaspersky on my computer. I think the disk my friend has can be used on three computers and they've used it on just one. Kaspersky isn't free, though, my friend bought it.

all anitvirus software says "do not install this if another antivirus program is on your computer." that doesn't include windows defender, but like all major antivirus software must be uninstalled before installing another one

consider getting spybot as well if you dont have it, it works well to protect you as well.
its an anti-spyware program so you can run it with your anti-virus no problems

most antiviruses have some form of anti spyware on them, and windows defender also has a built in firewall. that's why I turned it on for the short time span that i went between antivirus softwares

I don't trust windows defender a bit. My computer was once wiped clean because the people I bought it from relied mainly on that. I'm cool with that though, because I wouldn't have wound up buying this computer if it weren't for that. So, uh... thanks for sucking, windows defender!

Yeah, I'm sure it's safe enough for that. Still I'd get a different firewall.

Ok, just so everyone knows. If you have a router, then you most probably don't need a firewall as a router acts as a hardware one (which is far superior to software ones).

I got myself a router and it fixes everything.
