Lately where I live it's become hard to even get jobs at Mcdonalds if you haven't done college because they choose the people who have experience over the people who don't.

oh, I do want to claify my position.

It is worth it if you are in the right program. I think there are a lot of programs that have been created that are a waste of time. There should not be degrees in Dance, Music, Philosophy, Language Studies, Literature.... I'm sure I could continue to list useless degrees if I had looked up a list from a college. Those are big wastes of money. You can barely get a job with any of those degrees. It's ridiculous. If you want to make money in this world you want a degree in Business, Law, Medicine, Engineering, Accounting, or Finance. Sure if you want to be a low-income welfare bum then waste time on a useless degree....

Yes for 1 reason: It allows you to get better jobs and earn more money in most every job. However, it is extremely expensive.

I think college is worth it as long as one is motivated to learn. When I graduate, I will be an engineer making $50-60K a year and will be able to pay off my loans in a relatively short period of time. That money can be made without college, but not easily (especially in this economy). I would have to admit there are a lot of worthless undergraduate degrees that proably aren't worth it.

wisdom right there!!!! Those of you who haven't picked a major.... think about what job your major will get you. Think about the average salary of people with that major. Unless you plan on staying in school and being a professor then don't waste your time with certain majors. Go for something useful! Be a productive member of society and not a leech!

The thing with college is that it is expensive. I go to a 4 year university and i do pay out the butt for it. I mean yes it is better to go to a college to better yourself but if if college was paid for then a lot more people would go because it wouldn't take anything more than time for them. College isn't like a high school where you have to go. I say that the people who don't want to go to college then they wont even if it is paid for. On the other hand a lot of people who don't go to college because they don't have the money would start going so I say this is a sorta up in the air question that is it worth it or not.

College is worth the time and effort because it teaches you new things, and will get you better job so no one has to work at McDonalds for a living.

There are more rewards than just obtaining a degree. . . well if u are optimistic haha. i got involved with my school, asb and sports and i found it very rewarding. I read a few studies on students paying college tuition and others taking that same amount of money and investing it. 20 years down the road the investers made more money than the students that graduated and started careers, on average. I have to find that article for you. One of my english teachers had us to an assignment on it. I think those people were already wealthy and probably invessted their money with mommy and daddy and not harvord. I've been going to school for years and i am starting to have doubts about it, not getting far with the economy the way it is but it is too late to turn around now. Trade schools are another option, not having to do all the general education BS you never use and u learn exactly what u will be doing in the workforce. It is all up to the individual, school is not for everyone. trade school are another option or gambling in vegas.
