septembern : Yes. The Military Council is in temporary command while they organize an election to form a new civilian government. They are reviewing the Egyptian Constitution to prevent another Mubarak from taking power. They pledged to end the emergency laws that have been in place for decades, thus ending the police state that the people hated, and once things have settled down have pledged to ensure a free and fair election.

The Egyptian military is one of the few militaries in the world that are held in high regard by their people. They forced Mubarak to leave because he was not acting for the good of the state, and their job is to protect the state and the people. They want to give the people what they want, and I think that is great.

"Also, for clarity, a democracy is a government for the people, by the people and with the people, the people meaning those citizens of the country. Without having an adequate criminal justice system we could not have our freedom, therefore it is right to sentence convicts. Prisoners of War are not under the definition of the people as stated in my definition of democracy and are therefore irrelevant to a perfect democracy."

I understand completely what was said here, from a political logic point of view.

But I am saddened. Although PoWs are not "the people" of the nations in which they are imprisoned, they are still people. And although "irrelevant" to a perfect democracy (also debatable), they are still relevant as human beings. Although there must be some process for the handling of PoWs in any war situation, I think that the track record of that handling has been extremely poor. Surely a dignified and just solution must be found.
