i have had conversations with people all over the world... I have to say that I've found it very frustrating that many Americans know nothing about us up north. (not all Americans.) I wanna see how many people out there in America actually know anything about us. We live right beside you, show me what you know... Or ask me what you don't.

This is to learn, grow and understand.

Canadians are... people from Canada. Many of them speak English, some speak French, and quite a few can speak both. They don't use the word "eh" after every sentence, contrary tto popular belief, though it is used after questions sometimes. The Canadian government leans slightly further towards socialism than the US ( for now...). They also totally have the better half of the Falls, actually, only the US side is called Niagara Falls, the Canadian side is called Horseshoe Falls. The national sport is lacrosse, although most US Americans think its hockey. That's just about all I know about Canada.

so it seems i'm getting some answers here... i know i should be in the market if i'm offering VIZ, but i have a feeling it'll be ok if i offer it just once.

I'm going to ask a series of questions...

I'll offer 200 Viz to anyone who knows the answers. first person with all the right answers wins. this will be the only Viz offer. But I wanna see how many people actually know the answers and how many look them up.

And be honest, you won't have anything deducted if you have to google answers... however, there may be some answers that you have to.

GOOD LUCK!

question #1

what is minimum wage in the capital city of Manitoba?

question #2

what is the name of the 4th prime minister of Canada?

question #3

what is the capital city of the province, where the capital of Canada is located?

question #4

what is Canada's biggest export?

question #5

what was Canada's biggest contribution to science? (any form of science will do)

any one who can answer these questions ether already knew the answers or looked them up... and that means they learned. I'll pay for that

AND

#1 $9.50 (looked up)

#2 John Sparrow David Thompson (looked up)

#3 Toronto (knew, but wasn't completely sure until I looked it up)

#4 is the oil from the Shales in Northern Alberta I believe, which narrowly edges out hockey players and actors. I can vouch for the hockey players being exported down here to Huntsville, AL. Cause I've seen 2 generations worth come down. (knew)

#5 ethelyne anestazine for surgery by a Mr. W.E. Brown. (looked up)

I don't know much of any thing about Canada, seeing how I live down in Texas. Canadian people aren't much different from Americans, I suppose because we both were founded by England, or at least the 13 colonies were. I guess Canada kinda was the same way, started small and grew. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
The only person I've ever talked to that was from Canada was probably Geeogree.
I would like to learn more about Canada, and their people so I can fill my head with more and more knowledge.

I don't know anything about Canadians nor do I know any personally. The only Canadian I can think of is Geeogree...and now you GrimJester. Please enlighten me on Canadian history.

early Canadian history. (first settlers)

Canadian sovereignty

Our idiot of a prime minister pulls this off.

We are a friendly and peace loving country, not to say we don't have crime or violence. Canada is comprised mostly of trees and water. Canada provides free health care to all Canadian citizens and our community support structure is among the best anywhere. Our weather sucks 4 months our of the year, ( I hate snow. ) but where I'm from we live free of all natural disasters; No floods no hurricanes no tornadoes no earthquakes. Our land originally belonged to the north American Natives spanning many different tribes. There is a plethora of knowledge from Canada, if you want to know something... it'll be best to ask specifically.

OH! and we love our beer! EH? LOLz jokes

That's a tough one. Canada isn't really a military "Power" We're more of a peace keeping country... Well, we were before Stephen Harper

but here's a list of what i can remember from history... I'll go back to about 1900, and I'm not going to include any internal conflicts.

1914 - World war one. (we were on the winning side. thanks to the Americans.)

1917 - Russian civil war (not really sure if anyone won that one. )

1939 - World war II (Canada was with the allies)

1979 - Soviet war in Afghanistan ( pretty sure we were only keeping the peace there.)

1990 - Gulf war ( Against Iraq )

2002 - Afghanistan

these are only the more important international conflicts that Canada has been involved with. and as for winning and losing? does anybody really win when innocent lives are lost because two old men with a taste of power disagree? or because one old man with a thirst for power disregards the value of even one life? so when you ask me how many wars we won... I say none. How many innocent lives must be lost? How much blood must be shed? how many country's must be ravaged and ruined for the sake of the rich man's prosperity? War IS Losing!

any more questions?

Grim... I would just like to point out that most Americans couldn't tell you the answers to questions like that about their own country without looking it up.

And the capital of Canada is Ottawa, and no I did not look that up.

I know there are many provinces, though I do not know all of their names. I know that Canada was originally New France but was lost to the British following the French and Indian War (Napoleonic Wars). I know that during the American Revolution we laid siege to Quebec in an attempt to have them join us (that failed). I know a good deal of the eastern part of the country is bilingual. I know the Canadian anthem is "O Canada" and that it is sung in English and French... and is sung slightly different in the French Canadian areas like Montreal. I know that you still have the British monarch on your money, and much of the other things that others have been said by others.

that's incredible... the amount of knowledge you showed there. weather you looked that up or just remembered it from school... there are a lot of Canadians that don't know our history back to the conflict between french and British hierarchy.the question was what is

and your answer, "Ottawa" was not my question. My question was...
what is the capital city of the PROVINCE where the capital of Canada is located?

the capital - Ottawa - is in Ontario, and the capital city of Ontario is Toronto.

FYI Little known fact for the future... they're thinking of changing that. can you guess what city will be renamed the capital of Ontario?

I have to say. I'm very enthusiastic about this, I'm glad to see that people actually know about Canada.

ok... let's get a few things straight here. Yes milk comes in bags. Mullets are not hockey hair... that's just an excuse for people living in trailer parks. and drinking maple syrup is a waste... we just put it on anything you can eat for breakfast. most of us do usually finish our sentences with :
Buddy
Dude
Eh?
Guy

We only drink beer to celebrate... of course sometimes just having beer is a good reason to celebrate.

And we do NOT pronounce our O's as U's it's about... not aboot.

I am a history major, one of my areas of specialization was American history, and I focused on the early parts... lots about the relations with Canada there. Other stuff I have learned from listening to hockey announcers on television... surprising wealth of information.

Capital question... I read it as a two-part question, what is the capital, and what is the capital of the province it is located in? So I answered the unanswered part. And no, I had not heard about changing Ontario's capital, though I would hope they don't plan to move it to Ottawa, that would be a bit confusing to have two capitals together.

I am sad to say that I do not know as much about Canada as I should (I am a Canadian citizen). However, I am currently living in the United States (I have all my life) and as a citizen of the USA, I don't know much about this country either. Yes, I have dual citizenship. It's awesome I do know that I like Canada much more than the United States of America. People are stupid here.
