Active Time Battle or ATB System is the battle system used in most Final Fantasy games. It allows no free movement of characters with the controller and any movement is a direct result of various attacks, moves, or menu commands. Characters usually return to their starting spot in the battle area after an action.

Active Dimension Battle or ADB System is the system used in Final Fantasy XII. Seeing that FFXII isn't out yet, the simplest way to explain the battle system is to compare it to Quest 64 on the N64. Battles occurred in the field screen and the player was given free movement within a certain range, but only during the player's turn. In FFXII, the player can move throughout the entire battlefield at all times. This will allow the player to dodge enemy attacks by literally moving the character out of the way. The system is then mixed with ATB by the use of AT (Active Time) bars. Thus, all characters can be moved at any time, but they can only execute an action when the AT bar is full.

The original Chrono Trigger used a lightly modified ATB system by allowing the battles to take place in the field, but otherwise stuck closely to the standards of ATB.

So what would you want to see? How do you want to fight in the new Chrono Trigger world?

This poll will continue until December 31st.

I don't fear change...rather, I just don't think any other system would fit with Chrono Trigger that well. It would deprive me of quite a bit of nostalgia if I were forced to use another system in the remake.

But ultimately, that decision is up to Square-Enix, not us.

Well, since I haven't actually seen how ADB works, I will say stick with the old way. However, I do think that the ability to move around and dodge the attacks is a really cool idea and might be worth straying from the old system for.

Wow, it's great to know you're interested in a Remake, Elara. Chrono Trigger probably has more female fans than we realize.

I never got to finish playing the original (boyfriend was an a**h***), but yeah I would love to see a remake of the game. I know the female friends that I have would also like to see one as well... of course we are all little gamer freaks, so that is why.

Wait a second... someone... who is not...

*confetti spews forth from the sky*

Congratulations Elara; you are the first non-staff member to post in these forums! If I had Lavos plushies to give out, you'd definitely get one. Well... then again... those would look kind of nasty...

...I was wondering when someone would become a little curious and go in to the CTP section. Guess it has finally happened.

Anyway... I suppose I never told anyone what specifically my choice was. I'm a nostalgic kind of guy, so I'd probably just want the same great battle system... but perhaps with a few tweaks.

I've been contacting members of the forum who once showed interest in the petition, asking them if they would still be interested in what we're doing, and if they'd want to check it out on our part of the forum. Hopefully we'll start getting a few more as well.

Plus, Zylo already posted in the questions topic.

I just had a horrible thought of the "Teddy Bear" being replaced by the Lavos Plushie. That would be so... awkward. I mean... who wouldn't love hugging an intergalactic alien species that devours planets and the inhabitants of said planets as they sleep? That would be so insane. You know what though... I'm sure people would buy the Lavos plushie... perhaps it actually... is marketable.

...Maybe we should sell them after the whole petition business is over...

Hmmmmmm... if a Lavos plushie was to be made though... which "level" of Lavos would we use...

I always figured you meant the shell version. AKA the very first one you face in the Underwater Palace. And the one you face in 1999 if you don't use the Epoch to crash into him.

No... don't mix Final Fantasy with Chrono Trigger T_T

Chrono Trigger is Chrono Trigger and nothing more. The game's battle system has been the best so far for me.

Although the characters are static, bothersome random battles don't exist.

I mean, why not have it that you can engadge in battle from afar...then something like total free movement occurs.
Like, run away from the enemy completely.

Or even options, satisfy the world with "Real Time" or "Ranged Timed" battle styles which can be selected in the start menu.

Joseph, I guess you're thinking something more along the lines of Secret Of Mana, right? Or more recently, kind of like MMORPGs and the Elder Scrolls games...right?

I mean, the ORIGINAL CT system can't be used totally because of the transition to 3D, but it could still be pretty similar. Still, I think I'd like to see ways to move characters out of the way and do cool stuff like that...as long as it's not totally crucial to your success. Like those triple techs...they were awesome, but not essential.

w00t .

Is ADB like an action battle system, where it relies a bit on the skills of the user aswell as the character?
