So, Im wondering, did anyone see the Scott Pilgrim movie, and what did you think of it? I thought it lived up to its tagline, (an epic of epic epicness,) but what did you think?

I just say it last night actually. I had been meaning to see it since it came to the theaters but never got a chance. I thought it was a pretty good movie. There wasn't really anything I didn't like about it!

I saw it, to be honest I don't really like it. The plot was way too cheesy and it bored me.

well, to be honest, I went into it expecting a movie that only relied on Special effects. While it did have lots of special effects, the plot was actually the reason for me to keep watching. For me, it did its job.

The movie was a bit meh for me, here's why.

First off, the thing that I didnt like about this movie is the whole "it's for gamers thing". The references mean absolutely nothing honestly. The whole laser sword stuff and people exploding into coins is a call-out to NMH, but it doesn't mean anything. If I didn't recognize this it would mean nothing. The references are not funny or clever. Okay, I know of the NES game "Clash at Demonhead", but a band being called that does nothing for me.

However, that's not the real problem with them selling this as a gamer's movie. This whole gamer setup is an excuse to have absolutely no plot. Maybe it's a parody of games having no plot other than save the princess, but it doesn't make riveting cinema. Ramona is a cold, distant whore, yet Scott chases after her, completely ignoring the Asian schoolgirl who is completely entranced with his stupid annoying personality. At the end where she is with Giddeon (or however you spell it) again, she care about Scott. She just wants a man to control her. Anyways, the beginning of the movie has absolutely nothing of any substance going on. I enjoyed the initial scenes with Scott and Ramona, but it's also distractingly unrealistic. I'm not familiar with too many women who like it when a man is awkward and unfunny. Their relationship is completely shallow, and I can't even buy the relationship being purely physical, since Michael Cera isn't exactly hot.

Speaking of Cera, I hated him in this movie. Not necessarily because of the acting or anything, but his voice was just killing me the entire time. Sorry, it's just annoying. No matter how much you think it suits a character, I don't want Justin Beiber as the protagonist in a movie.

The actual seven evil ex fights are not good. They offer up maybe a minute or two of good action, but all end in unsatisfactory ways, such as grinding to your doom without any actual skateboarding competition having taken place. The vegan finish was dumb. The lesbian orgasming to death or whatever that was was just awkward. The twins battle was stupid in its entirety. Then in the last fight, the movie really just says screw it, and throws all sense out the window. Look, just because this is "for gamers" it doesn't mean a human has multiple lives now. He can just die with no consequence, it's stupid, and immediately cuts all tension that the threat of death would carry.

Honestly it still is decently entertaining. I still ENJOYED it for the most part, it's just that trying to look for any depth is an exercise in futility. I'd probably recommend seeing it still.

Honestly, Xfighter, this isn't the movie to analyze in depth. I think that, honestly, this is a spoof of the dating world today, where the girl only wants someone to control her, and the guy would do anything for said girl, so basically, this is a more-bearable version of twilight, (I mean that in a good way.) I agree with you on Michael Cera though, His voice got a bit annoying, but this is the perfect role for him, come on, give the guy his props. The evil-ex fights were pretty cool, special effects wise. Just think of the choreography Everyone had to go through. The way I think about it, this is supposed to be like a musical, but where as in musicals the characters break out into song and dance, these characters break into fighting. As for your last complaint about the threat of death, its a movie in a final fantasy-like comic book movie, when someone gets a life and dies, They come back to life. Just through out your disbelief, and enjoy the movie.

Admit it though, Wallace was funny.

supersonic44 : I agree that Wallace was funny and probably the best character in the whole movie.

The problem is that it goes from 2 minute evil ex fight to 2 minute evil ex fight with no explanation as to why this is really happening brought to the table apart from a sentence or two from Ramona and a drawing. Why are these exes joining forces against Scott. I don't know, I guess because they're exes. You know, remember when your ex-boyfriend came back and tried to murder your current boyfriend? The only one that really made sense was Gideon because he controls Ramona.

And the whole dis-belief thing like a video game and coming back to life would've also made sense to any of the others ex's and not just Scott. If the only purpose of movies is to enjoy and take out disbelief, why make criticize ANY movie at all especially Twilight or the latest badly made CGI movie out there.

xfighter1138 :
Did you go into this movie expecting it to be realistic? I didn't really mind that the characters came to fight Scott randomly, they just wanted to kill Scott, their only point in the whole movie. Basically, for the whole death thing, Scott got a life on screen, and as everyone knows from video games and can accept it because this movie is.... out there, where as the evil-ex's didn't get a life on-screen, so this couldn't have worked.

Plus, I meant to through out your disbelief for this movie, not any other movie.

It's supposed to be like an old video game. The Evil-Exes would never be able to get an extra life cause they are bosses. When have you ever played an old game where the bosses get more lives? It wouldn't make sense if they did cause they aren't going around amassing points from killing stuff. It's not supposed to be realistic, when you played Super Mario for the first time did you ever stop to wonder "Hey, what's the reasoning behind Bowser kidnapping the princess? Why do these things die and turn into coins?" no you just had fun with it, I'm only using Super Mario as an example since most everyone has played it.

It's hard to analyze the movie because it doesn't follow the comic saga very closely. Ramona was only a "cold, distant whore" until she got to know Scott and they moved in together. The problem with movies based on anything is that you only get so much put on film. The only complaint I had about the movie was that they gave Scott his 1-up at the wrong time. The comic has him getting it a lot earlier. Other than that, I loved it. My girlfriend, son, and I actually sat down and watched it three or four times.

To me watching this movie was similar to Zombieland. It was entertaining the whole time, but nowhere near as funny as I was told it would be. I hardly laughed at all, but I never felt like just leaving.

I enjoyed it. I haven't read the graphic novels it was based off of, though. So I guess I was easily impressed by it. I thought it felt kind of short, though. Probably because I liked it and I wanted to see more.

I liked it a lot it has it flaws but i think the good out weighs the bad. Never really saw it as a movie for gamers though felt more like a video game made by gamers who liked refrences. I have read the graphic novels and im impressed they went the see every thing way instead of wait for the sequel. As for plot... even with all the fighting it doesnt change the fact its a love story. Not for everyone but something diffrent to watch.

You know, now that I've actually read the comic books, the movie doesn't follow it all that well, which is usual. But at least it didn't butcher it.

The first like 30 minutes is the first volume and the rest is what the director and its maker could fit in. So the maker of the comics was there and helped with some scenes. I mean its hard translating a book or comic because stick too close and people wont like it but got to far away and fans will hate it. Im glad some things were changed like the second evil ex fight was changed for the better. But i agree with you at least they didnt butcher it.

I finally watched this movie for the first time a couple days ago, and I loved it. It was easily one of the best movies of 2010, and all of that after I looked at the previews and thought it was going to be horrible. I was definitely impressed. 9/10

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
