Wow, a lot of people here have very misinformed views about evolution. Evolution is not a 'theory' or a belief, it simply is. Whether you believe it or not is irrelevant; the evidence is there, staring everyone in the face. Rejecting evolution is as ridiculous as claiming the earth is flat.

Middlemoor : i would say it is short term evolution,if something evolves it generaly adapts in a way that makes it more complex and efficient.either way it proves living things can change.

Traduweise : I strongly disagree with your comment that there are no primitive species. If you want to say primitive, let's look at single-cell organisms. Volvox and amoebae are very simple, very primitive because they were around millions of years ago and today without much change.

To add to it, the shark is a primitive species because it has not had any significant changes in the past millions of years. It's an old species but it's perfectly efficient. There are no improvements to be made.

They're still primitive. Sharks eat, swim, and make little sharks and that's about it. They're a miracle of non-evolution.

warmaker : The term you are looking for is ancestral. Primitive refers to something in its early stages and underdeveloped. Single-celled organisms are not at all primitive. They are constantly evolving; just look look at antibiotic-resistant bacteria like MRSA. In fact, single-celled organisms evolve much faster and can adapt to new conditions better than larger more complex organisms.

Sharks also have evolved. Not as much as other species, but a modern shark is certainly different from what existed 300 million years ago. The species an organism has evolved from tens or hundreds of millions of years ago no longer exists. That is why there are no primitive species today.

how do you explain our evolution from apes to neanderthal (as some call cavemen) we all wouldn't be where we are if it wasn't for evolutions

Traduweise : All this talk of evolution makes me want to play E.V.O. But yeah, you're right for the most part. 'Primitive' as a description for lifeforms only works when used comparatively though.

I do believe in it for the most part, here are 3 things that sway me:
1. The Lenski experiment with E. Coli showing its evolution over more than 20 years. Still in progress at U of Michigan.

2. Tiktaakik: a dramatic transitional fossil(among thousands).

3. Chromosone #2: showing overwhelmingly the fusion of 2 chromosomes in the ape line into chromosone #2 in the human line.
The question, though, becomes: Does evolution account for all known genetic variation on the planet?
