drag00n365 : You certainly could, but it would be taken down 5 minutes later. For general information, like what acclimation is, Wikipedia is fine. You'll notice for more exact information, I used more reliable sources including a peer-reviewed paper.

drag00n365 : We are discussing a scientific topic (evolution), and the peer-reviewed literature is where these ideas are debated. It is the most accurate source available, and since Geogree wants more than just basic links to Wikipedia and the like, it makes sense.

JigSaw : I realize that this post was made a long time ago, but I feel I should still correct one thing. Humans do not "evolve" from sperm. Sperm is what carries the males DNA into the female egg which then divides and develops various organs that end up becoming a fetus. Evolution which is what this thread is about, is the process of a type of organism changing it's DNA entirely throughout thousands of years, usually to adapt to an always changing environment. Social classes have nothing to do with evolution even more so than sperm. I understand that you are trying to make a point, but there isn't any relation. Most scientists do agree that humans evolved from monkeys. The problem with that theory is why then do we not see any organisms that are inbetween the two? Why would some evolve and others not? Unfortunately no one (as far as I am aware) has been able to live for several thousand years, and so we cannot get any testable data to prove either argument. That is why it is know as the theory of evolution and not the science of evolution.

Liquid turning into bones and tissue over time, just like how monkey turned into man over time, are not related to evolution? 9 months to a few thousand years is a big difference that is why its easy to disprove any fact I show you.

As for the organism in between monkey and man... look at black people. They got different hair then white people, different skin then white people, what is so hard to correlate the two into evolution? I dont know how races came about so I'll just link them to evolution.

10 years ago we were living off dial up, now here we are with cable and high speed internet. You said "usually to adapt to an always changing environment", evolution doesn't exist just biologically its everywhere. Thinking it only has to do with DNA is what limits you on proof of evolution.

The funniest thing about science is that it is evolution itself. Its always evolving, why deny it?

JigSaw : I think your comment that science is evolving is a pretty good way of putting it. Science changes to fit what's best for it's environment, not necessarily what's best for that organism if it lived globally. The classic Galileo example shows science's environment at the time was what was best for the catholic church, not what was best for mankind's general knowledge. It changes and gets better suited to the environment that we shape for it, and people generally strive to improve upon science in the way the environment suggests. I really like that comment is all, LOL If there was no evolution outside of biological, we might look like we do now, but we'd still be living in caves. Our ways of thinking and our technology evolves just as much as the species on our planets do, only at a rate that we can notice during one of our lifetimes. If we all lived for a few million years, maybe it wouldn't be so hard for people to wrap their heads around evolution.

BTowns : Finally someone who agrees with my logic I mean even look at peoples names... when they get married their name changes to someone elses last name. That is another good example of evolution in our sight.

JigSaw : Except changing to the male's name can make it seem like the male is the more important part of the breeding, when there's an equal amount of chromosomes put in. I guess it's a better alternative then adding both names on, a few generations in and we'd have a double digit amount of surnames, LOL Also, some feminists would protest that it's not evolution at all, and they don't need a man('s last name) to make them happy, LOL

Many are terribly misinformed about what evolution is. It has nothing to do with how the earth was made or formed it only has to do with how life evolved AFTER the earth was made or formed...

I've been a firm 'believer' in evolutionary theory since I did a report on Charles Darwin in third grade.

Despite how common it is to casually discuss evolution with friends and family, I never really knew all of the details and science behind evolution which prove it to be true. It is certainly easy (at least for me) to envision how evolution and natural selection can slowly change features and create new species over time, but seems difficult to understand and comprehend the science behind it.

I myself do believe in evolution. creatures and organism have to adapt and change as time goes on, or else they go extinct. Saying humans evolved from monkeys may not be my ideal view on mankind's beginning, but shrugging it off because of religious beliefs doesn't make it any less true, or false. Believing in evolution doesn't necessarily mean that you are nonreligious, but that you believe a different interpretation of your religion. While some read their holy books and find it to disprove evolution, some also can read and see how evolution is possible.

for one thing evolution is not even possible. The earth is how many million years old according to evolution. If that were true, then the sun (burning at the same rate as it is now) would have burnt out by now. Most scientists will consider this fact. second, for all of the people that say theories are scientific fact, sorry not the definition of a theory. The greatest scientific minds all found their inspiration in the Bible and were Christian. They didn't waste their time to see if we evolved from monkeys. They were able to focus on the universe and other things. Has anyone noticed that as evolution becomes more prevalent. Crime rises and the community declines? It makes man equal with animals and that means we can do whatever we want apparently. There are no missing links. Don't tell me that it is science because it isn't. It takes just as much faith to believe in evolution as it takes to believe in Creationism or Christianity.

XxChaosxX : you have a good point but the ti=hing you said about how monkeys arnt evolveing into humans is wrong because evolving takes millions of years to happen.

Also I belive in evolution and God. Because Evolution has basicly been proven. but i was also born to a family that belives in God so i was leard to belive in him.

Humans didn't evolve from monkeys or apes today. We showed up when they did.

Evolution doesn't necessarily mean I just spontaneously change into a new creature. It means that certain animals are successful, develop new traits because the older versions of those animals didn't have these traits and died off. Let me walk you through.

An animal is a moth. The moth is white. All these moths are white. They live in a very clean part of London where buildings are white and there is no pollution.

Pollution occurs and darkens buildings. Most completely white moths are eaten by birds because they're easily seen. Other moths are able to avoid the birds and survive longer. They survive so long, their wings get sunburned and darken slightly. The moths with darker wings survive long enough to pass on their wing-stained DNA to their offspring. The white moths are wiped out.

Darker moths (Like how humans have different skin colors) survive better and pass on darker genes, mating with darker mothers. The moth turns black over many thousands of generations.

Evolution explains why there are super fair-skinned people in Norway. Their skin needs to absorb all the sunlight possible to get Vitamin D. Africa has super dark-skinned people to protect them from sunlight. If there were no evolution, which is really survival of the most adaptable, all humans would have the same skin color.

Well people let me tell you what I think. To "evolve" you need to have to cells form a zygot which is why we can be diffrent. HOW EVER, to make intire new organs would mean possibly making new tissues, and, things don't just happen without a mutation. Odds are this mutation will be a DEFECT. Plus there's the fact that a can't make an entire organ. So there are going to be a bunch of basicly cancerous random tissues, which will take a while to turn into something usefull. So basiclly this animal is handicapet. Makeing it DIE, not very evoulotionary.

Humans did not evolve from monkeys, humans and monkeys evolved from a common ancestor. THE THEORY IS NOT THAT HUMANS EVOLVED FROM MONKEYS. Did Not Evolve From Monkeys. There is proof that evolution is reality. GOOGLE IT. What's wrong with people like JZ is that they don't even bother to look into it, they just spout bits from the bible. It is true that we have not witnessed evolution completely yet, but only because we have not been around and cognizant the amount of time it takes for a species to evolve. Scientists have found a "missing link." GOOGLE IT. The sun will survive for millions of years more before it goes supernova. GOOGLE IT.

Bobbynibbles : Calm down dude. Everyone has their own opinions, there's no reason to get so hostile over a few opinions. I understand you feel strongly about this, but other people do too. I'm not trying to nag you, I'm just trying to stop a possible flame war. So don't take this personal or anything. I'd say this to anyone.

I think that evolution is entirely plausible, and that it has plenty of solid proof to back it up.

In responce to JZ: Christian scientists were most prevalent in the middle ages because they were the only ones that were accepted. Secondly, I do not see how Evolution directly causes rises in crime rates. I don't imagine criminals really think about the Origin of Species when they are committing Theft, Rape, Murder, etc. Thirdly, the Sun's lifespan is 10 billion years at most estimates, and it has been around for 4.7 billion years. Fourthly, evolution is not a magical thing that says monkeys turn into people and dinosaurs turn into chickens, it means that for each generation out of millions, small changes happen in genetic sequences happen and that times 10 million equals large differences. Fifthly, You can deny that evolution is plausible, but you cannot deny that several millions of fossils have been found and that they had to come from somewhere.

Lastly, I don't see any other logical explantation. There are millions of religions that have come and gone, and they all had different creation stories. None are backed up by evidence, so which is right? Did God make the world? Did Brahma? Atum? Izanagi? There is no evidence to put one over another, so they all are on the same plane.
