obviously the books are better.... there is more in them and the story as a whole makes more sense.

But I will say that since movie 3 I have really enjoyed the movies. The first 2 were pretty weak and were targeted towards a younger audience, but 3-6 have been far more mature overall. Of course the books were too but thankfully the movies actually followed that trend instead of trying to remain too kid friendly.
