I have, but not with the paper clip trick. My brother was mad at me and refused to let me into his room, but he had some of my stuff in there, so I got a syringe with a wide needle, and stuck it into the lock. He hated me for that.

I've experimented picking a dead bolt lock...to no avail. The lock broke so I threw it out having no use for it!

A regular door lock can easily be picked with a butter knife. I've accidentally locked myself out a few times and got in within a few seconds, unless the dead bolt was also locked.
