Pokemon Crystal
Gosh does this game bring back memories. I recently had played through Crystal, which is why I decided to review it now. This game is all the greatness that is Gold/Silver and throws in Suicune and Unown. Yes please. Unfortunately, this makes getting Ho-Oh and Lugia tougher, but it is no matter, as this game is fantastic the way it is. I'm going to go straight into the review rather than droning on about it for 15 lines... Here we go!
Graphics-
Is there any better opening sequence than Crystal? The graphics are GBA quality during that sequence! The image of Suicune running, the Unown, and Crystal being spelled out by Unown! It was all fantastic then and now. Crystal also started something that is one of my favorite parts of a Pokemon game. Sprite animations. There is nothing like entering a battle and seeing the opposing move around like a real live animal would. While the animations are only a couple frames, they're magical and add some much to the game. They are a big reason I gave this game 10 for graphics. I really do think this game is beautiful for its time period. Some of the move animations were really great, and the maps were wonderful. I think this game looks amazing.
Sound-
Sound. Considering the player is h=given a radio early into the game, its hard to imagine a low sound score especially when one considers the creepy Ruins of Alph music. Unfortunately, despite the awesome battle music and route themes, the Pokemon cries are still flat. I just expect so much more from Game Freak. I just wish my Cyndaquil would say "Quil!" at the beginning of every battle, rather than the weird scratchy beeps that are apparently the sounds Pokemon make. Cries always disappoint me, just not enough to give a low score.
Addictiveness-
If you've read some of my other reviews, you know my policy. Pokemon games get 10 addictiveness, always. These game suck you in, and once you become engrossed in the series, you're pretty much never gonna think about anything else. Pokemon games are addicting because they're fun. They're fun because there are so many ways to play the game. Some people will pick a Pokemon and level it up to 80 before even facing the Elite 4. Some will pick 2-3 Pokemon that can hit a lot of other types for good damage. Some will get a whole team of high-leveled evolved Pokemon of different types. Some will Nuzlocke. Some will... Ok, I can't list all the ways to play Crystal because, the truth is, you play the way YOU want to.
Story-
I'm sorry but Pokemon games just don't have good stories. I do wish the Unown had been included as part of the story though, rather than a simple side-quest, but whatever. While the quest to chase down Suicune might have been a little better than Gold/Silver's plot was, it still isn't a good story. That's alright though, because frankly Pokemon runs off addictiveness and depth, so I don't mind a poor story, as long as the game is fun. If you want your game to be as twisting and plot-filled as a book, go play Earthbound or Kingdom Hearts or something.
Depth-
Just like Gold and Silver, Crystal has amazing depth. I'll tell you why. With most Pokemon games, you beat the Elite 4 and pretty much all that's left is catch some Pokes for your Dex, do the Battle Froniter/Tower. With Pokemon Crystal you beat the Elite 4... then you head to another region, get 8 MORE BADGES, and get a chance to face the toughest trainer in the world. Plenty to do, especially with the inclusion of the Battle Tower, adding another facet of Pokemon that would become a staple of every game. Breeding is also fun. Breeding Pokemon to get good IV's, special egg moves, and Pokemon got only through breeding was another great part of Pokemon Crystal.
Difficulty-
Meh, not a tough game for any experienced Pokemon player, however it depends on how you decide to play the game. I always pick Cyndaquil for the easiest time through, but whoever you decide to pick is fine. The best advice I can give you is to try and go with a balanced team, so you don't have one opponent causing you trouble.
Overall, many fans will praise this as the best Pokemon game, and call this the "end of the golden age of Pokemon". While this is an amazing game, it isn't the end of the golden age, as Pokemon will only continue to get better.
Oh and if you're playing right now, good luck against Whitney. ;)

Pokemon Crystal Description: Pokémon Crystal is an upgrade of the parallel Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver. Pokémon Crystal is to its parallels like Pokémon Yellow: Special Pikachu Edition and Pokémon Emerald are to to theirs. This means that the storyline, characters and gameplay are basically the same, only there have been made several updates and changes to make this game more exciting and fun.
* You can now play as both a male and a female character.
* The pokémon Suicune plays a much bigger role, both as a character and a pokémon. You will meet it earlier and be able to catch it easier at Tin Tower as well as encountering it three times before.
* New characters: Eusine, The Poké Seer and more.
* New interface, a sign will appear at the bottom of the screen when entering a new area showing where you are (route, area).
* New animations: Pokémon move when entering combat screen.
* New Pokémon locations, exceptions, moves and additions.
These are among the most significant changes to the upgrade version. However, you will find many new details in the gameplay and interface that makes the game more exciting.
WARNING
You must play this game in the JavaBoy emulator, otherwise you will not be able to read most of what is to be read, and the screen will glitch sometimes and you won't be able to see where you are going for a short period of time. See Screen Shots below to see what problems may occur.
TO CHANGE YOUR GAME CLOCK:
after you've received the PokeGear, go to the PokeGear to the screen that shows the Day and Time. Simply pressing up or down will change the game's Clock (this game has been modified to support this feature as of 6/18/09).

Pokemon Crystal Cheats, Codes and Tips:
Get through grassy areas without a single random encounter.
Once you\\\\\\\'ve obtained the HM Cut you can use it to teach some of your pokemon the attack of the same name.
This ability now cannot only be used to cut down certain trees but also to get rid of any grass so you don\\\\\\\'t have to bother with any random encounters.
When saving and loading or leaving and reentering the area you used cut in, the grass will have returned.

Long story short: It's a pretty epic game. It pretty much follows with Gold and Silver, except that theres a whole second side-storyline about Suicune. Better yet, once you beat the Johto region, you venture into the Kanto region. It's even the first Pokemon game where you can play as a girl. It's one of my favorite Pokemon games, and would definitely recommend it. However, I can't give it a perfect 10, because of the AI Pokemon levels. At times, the game is just too easy.

Almost an exact re-make of the original that kept me busy for months. This is a great game for Pokemon veterans and new players alike. The thing that really attracted me to Pokemon Crystal when it was first released, was its updated storyline with several new features. Also the ability to travel back to Kanto to experience the first generation again! Great game for all ages, just beware that you don't get hooked!

This game is actually a fun game, a pure Pokemon masterpiece, and arguably the best in the series. The Johto games added so much to Pokemon that it hardly even feels like Red/Blue/Yellow.

This game is epic! It's way more advanced than Gold and Silver, and it should have a DS remake to go with HGSS. I got all the badges in the game with all the legendaries. My team is in the lower 90s and upper 80s and I just beat Red. He sent his Charizard out last and my Feraligatr killed it with 1 Hydro Pump! This is a great game Nintendo made after Gold and Silver

i like this game!!! This works very well on the first selecion. Crystal is better than gold and silver. I think the best starter is cyndiquil, although you can chose what starter you want. This isn't that hard, but isn't easy id say this is a moderate good for begginers and moderate players. this is a MUST try game.

This game is one of the best Pokemon games in the entire timeline. My pokemon are so go at level 60 or 50 I train my pokemons super good. Im on chapion red I got to his espon and it killed my good pokemon so I got feraligator level 69

hanter level 67
and more but I don't know.

While this game certainly was a good one (after all, it is a pokemon game) and has it's merits, it's more of a historical curiosity today. Fun, but not the best pokemon game out. (By the way, Kanto in these games really, REALLY sucks)

Uhhh... Awesome game and stuff but the Emulator sucks so much. It has trouble saving, it frequently 'turns off'. This wastes so much time since their is no speedup button to help get me back to where I was faster. Overall this game is the best. HeartGold and SoulSilver will be awesome. Long live pokemon

Just for the people who don't know how to save their games, you have to start a new game, then double click the screen and select the load button. If that brings up a blue screen, just double click again and hit reset. That should get you back to your gam

I got the solution to fix the glitch when you load the game and it thinks you are not using the gameboy color just wait until the intro starts and then load it worked for me hope this helps :)
