Review PreviewHey, vizzed members! I’m Pac and today I’m reviewing a should-sound-at-least-a-little-bit-familiar game called Pinball for the NES. Today, at long last, breaks my huge streak of reviewing nothing but Pac-Man games (I’m called Pac for a reason, yo). Enjoy the review and don’t be shy to give constructive criticism! I greatly appreciate it. It helps me make more fun-to-read reviews for you guys.
SOUND EFFECTS
10/10I rated this a 10 because every sound is fun to hear, especially when the ball goes really fast and keeps hitting everything over and over! I struggled to pick a favorite sound effect since I love all of them a lot. But my favorite is the pause sound effect. It’s the same one as another NES game! Any guesses as to what that is? …No? OK, it’s Mario Bros! Yes,
the original Mario Bros, copyright Nintendo. (At least I think so, my memory isn't too great)
MUSIC
10/10I rated this a 10 because the title screen theme has me jamming to it every time in my chair. Yes, it actually does have me doing that, don’t question it. There aren’t any more themes, but for a basic Pinball game like this one, you shouldn’t have excessive music. It would ruin the gameplay. Even not having a game over theme is perfectly fine here in my opinion.
GRAPHICS
10/10I rated this a 10 because, WAHOO! these graphics are cool all throughout. A few examples are seals, penguins, cards, and giant pink targets (and an orange one for good measure). There’s even a bonus room with Mario and “some girl”! You know I’m excited about that! (My username has Mario in it for a reason, yo)
ANIMATIONS
10/10I rated this a 10 because all of these animations are fun to watch and I’d watch them more if I didn’t have a high score to set. One of my favorite animations is when the seals are bouncing beach balls. I also like Mario’s running animation when he has to move the platform he’s holding above his head.
My absolute favorite animation, though, is the first one: the spring being activated and, when it’s let go, launching the
ball up the Pinball machine. It reminds me of the old days where I played Pinball on my computer when it had Windows XP.
Normally I take off points in the rating for poor transitions, but games like this shouldn’t be expected to have creative transitions. It’s a simple game with simple transitions, and that’s more than OK with me!
STORY
Who0ps/10Oh, there isn’t a story so maybe I didn’t need to put this section here. But I do that in every review and put some entertaining text there so I had to do that again.
DIFFICULTY
2/10I rated this a 2 because once you know the controls, this is easy. All you have to do, aside from the bonus room, is use the paddles at the bottom to hit the ball upwards to keep scoring points. Then, when you miss, the ball falls down to the lower area and there are more opportunities to score points there, with all the cards and targets to hit.
DEPTH
10/10I rated this a 10 because the game has plenty to do for such a simple game. The game contains 4 modes: one player game A, one player game B, 2 player game A, and 2 player game B. The difference between game A and game B is simply that the ball moves faster, creating a larger challenge for the player. It doesn’t work on me though because I almost always score more points in game B!
ADDICTIVENESS
10/10I rated this a 10 because every time I play this game, I don’t grow tired of it. Instead, even if my hands hurt, I want to play it again to see if I can do any better. Plus, I came up with a funny but cool challenge for it: constantly spam the buttons for both paddles and see how many points you get. Funny enough, that’s how I got my personal best high score! XD
OVERALL (not counting story)
8.9/10What a consistent and worthwhile way to pass the time. If only I could buy this game on more devices. Nintendo
would make a fortune off of me!
I recommend this game to anyone who loves Pinball or just wants an easy-to-learn video game that also gives you a lot to do.
Thank you for reading my review and have a great day!
