You are Donkey Kong Jr., the son of the previous game anti-villain Donkey Kong Sr. Now the father is the one who is in distress as he has been locked up in a cage by the now named, Mario (he was called Jumpman in the first game) for kidnapping the latter's girlfriend Pauline in the previous game. The NES version contains all four levels and they are played straight forward instead of playing the game in fragments like the arcade.
CONTROLS
d-Pad Left/Right = Move left/right, grab the vine to the left or right.
d-pad Up = climb up the vine
d-pad Down = climb down the vine.
A button = Jump
Start = Pause

GAMEPLAY
Level 1, you move through the vines and try to make your way to the top. One thing you should know for this level and future levels is that when you are clinging to two vines, you climb up faster. When you are holding onto one vine, you climb down faster. In this first level you have to avoid the vine gators. The blue ones will climb down the vine all the way to the bottom. Red ones will climb to the bottom of the vine and climb back up and go to another vine in an effort to go after you. Once you make it to the top, jump onto mini platform while avoiding the vine gators on the ground then jump onto the platform next to the key to complete the level.
Level 2, is just like the first Donkey Kong. There is a major shortcut in this level that will help you complete the level faster. Jump onto the spring and if you press the A button at the right time, you will jump higher. Try to land on the platform then grab the bars when they are lowered then get to the top and grab the chains and avoid the birds. They swoop down at varying heights. Some drop eggs that can kill you. Once again, you got to get to the chain and end the level.
Level 3, has sparks spheres and spark bits that you must avoid as you get through to the top. The spheres moves at various speeds depending on the plane you are on. Use the fruits to knock them into the spheres to kill them and get them out of your hair. The spark bits on the other hand move across the planes using the thin lines and can attack you at random. As long you are on the sides of the level then you are safe.
Level 4, this is the final level before everything repeats itself at a higher difficulty. Your object is to avoid the birds and the vine gators as you push the keys into place to free your father from the cage he is in. Once all keys are in place, your father is free and for a baby, Donkey Kong Jr. sure is strong as he is able to catch his father as he falls and hold him.
