Sitting here after only getting 2 hours of sleep and it made me wonder. How many hours do you guys need to function in day to day life?.

Me personal need around 4-6 hours. I really don't need more. I'm used to working hours at a airport where we start around 5 in the morning and when working evening we are at work to 2am. So sleep for me is sleep when you can even so its for 15 min. So are you guys that need 8 hours or more of sleep to function or more like me that function on 4-6 hours?

I really only need about 7 hours of sleep to function properly. However, if my dogs don't wake me up, and I don't have any alarms or anything to do for that day, then I generally can get about 8 hours before I wake up. If I'm sick, it's a little more, but not much.

I function most of the time on 6 hours of sleep but that isn't really enough for me. I spend a good portion of the day feeling tired. 7-8 for me would be ideal. Any more and I find waking up is really tough to do.

And I think scientifically you need around 7 once you are an adult, 8-10 as a teenager (which most don't get) and 8-12 as a kid depending on your age.

Well I have to have 8-9 hours of sleep to function. I have always been like that. Maybe it is due to my medical condition.  Anything below 8 hours I do not function to good lol

Depends on how many hours do I need to function and how I actually slept.

I was able to go to school without sleeping, having woken up at 4 PM the day before for being holidays. I finished school at 2 PM, meaning I didn't really go 24 hours without sleeping, and I could function rather good. Definitely not something I'd repeat for distorting so much my sleep pattern, but comes out to say I can function for lots of hours with the proper sleep.

I know I have a hard time initializing myself if I sleep just a couple hours. With 4 or more I'm perfectly able to function, provided my sleep didn't get interrupted. A few years ago I needed a lot of hours because my disease sapped my energy and I still need several hours if I push myself to function, but hopefully I'll get rid of this as I get better.

I used to sleep from 3:00 to 7:00 because at 7:00, i had school. I was broken as i-don't-know-what and my body even started to get used to the times.

Now i have a normal sleep schedule, but my body wasn't functioning 100% actively back then.

I only need 4 at most. I'm an early bird, and restless at that. I'm at my most productive during the morning (5:00-6:00 AM). It's wonderful for me to wake up this early.

Had one at work who never got tired. He could sleep 1 hour and was not tired at all. He was a little crazy also maybe the reason there.

I don't really need all that much sleep. As long as I have a good breakfast in the morning, I will be good to go for the whole day.

A have a great example ... just last night, I had a pretty busy day in my shop. It was really busy for a Friday night since the bowling center I work in doesn't have a league during the summer. I almost did $800 in only 4 hours! But anyway, I didn't get home until almost 11pm when I usually get home around 9.

Then this morning, I have this huge annual youth tournament to work for. Basically I had to wake up at 6am after only less than 7 hours of sleep. And after a bowl of cereal and an apple, I am ready to go!

That's one problem I got. I'm not hungry after I wake up so I never eat breakfast. Have to be awake one hour or two before I eat any food. Always been that way.

I sleep around 3-4 hours normally, and I'm usually fine to do what my day entails. Although it really is dependant on my epilepsy... If I have a seizure I'm essentially dead to the world for at least 5 hours.  and if I feel like I'm going to have a seizure well.. I try to spend as much time in bed as I can until it passes or I have one... simply because.. Its harder to injure myself on my bed than lets say a brick floor lol

You got epilepsy and don't need more sleep? My dad got epilepsy a year ago from nowhere. He needs to sleep twice of what you do.

Meh, I only need 1 hour provided that I had a couple hours prior

I can deal with 1 or 2 hours fine, not at my best, but functional.

I'd like to have a full 8 hours of sleep, but that happens like once in every 3 months.

I sleep for 9 hours each day, and despite sleeping for long, I still find myself being tired day after day.

Normally I need at least 6 hours of sleep in order to not be so tired that I fall asleep while doing regular things.

I can live off of amounts under 3 hours, due to being so tired that I feel completely awake. When I get 3-5 hours of sleep, it just isn't enough and I'm completely exhausted the next day.

Thanks for caffeine!

Honestly, I just need like 4 hours min of sleep to function well. But I like to sleep around 6-8 hours just cause it's a good amount of sleep to sleep. For me, if I sleep too long, like 10-12 hours, I just get even more tired for some reason. :/

3 Hours Minimum, as a person who had to wake up a lot in the morning (even if I hate it) It's something I have to do. This is the smallest amount I have to wake up and feel decent. Granted my eyes will feel heavy but my brain is in full operation.

I usually need at least 5 hours of sleep to function well. It's rare that I sleep straight through a night, but it isn't too rare for me to get 6-7 hours of sleep a night. Just one less hour isn't much different besides it making me unhappy that I couldn't sleep more.

However, if I'm very excited about something I might only need 2 hours of sleep! That's what happened when I got to fly to Washington D.C., flying on a plane for the first time in many years.
