If Mega Man 2 was the game that put the Mega Man Franchise on the map then Mega Man 3 is the game that made the franchise one of the all time most popular video game series. Mega Man 3 was a very huge hit for Capcom and really established Mega Man as one of the more popular video game characters. I remember Mega Man 3 ranking in the top 10 in greatest NES games of all time only behind Mario games. So, it should be no surprise that they are hacks of this game. Roll-Chan 3 is a hack of Mega Man 3 the main difference is you are playing as Mega Man and Proto Man's sister Roll.

Story: 9

The Story has been changed to fit roll. Dr. Light made two fighting robots Mega Man (Rock) and Roll. Roll defeated Dr. Wily twice. Dr. Wily seems to have come to his senses and starts working with Dr. Light again. Dr. Wily wants to build a piece keeping Robot  named Gamma. To power Gamma though they need 8 elements. The problem is these 8 elements are guarded by 8 new robot masters. Dr. Light sends Roll and the robotic cat Tango out to stop whoever is in charge and get the elements. He instructs Rock and Rush to be on standby in case Roll needs them. Questions remain though has Dr. Wily really returned to his senses, and who made these new 8 robot masters? Roll and Tango head out to search for answers and to get the elements.

Okay, I really like how the story was changed to fit roll since she is Roll-Chan 3 main character. The plot is still the same as the original game it has just been altered to fit roll. I really liked the plot to Mega Man 3 and this game. It offers suspense you really do not get a plot twist till later in the game. I think that was a nice touch. Also having Wily seem to return to sanity was creative too. I give the plot a 9 out of 10.

Graphics and Controls: 9

The Graphics in this game are mostly the same as they are in the original Mega Man 3. The graphics in Mega Man 3 were very good and showed what the NES was capable of in its peak. This game is no different. The colors are the same, the backgrounds fit the stage themes very well. The sprites are mostly the same. However Roll's Sprites have been changed to reflect what special weapon she is using. I must say the colors look groovy. In addition, the game does not seem to lag at all.

The Controls are very good for this to be a hack. The only complaint is there was two times in the game were the controls seemed to go a little stiff. However, it is very minor and does not really cause you to get hit. For the most part the controls are the same as they are in Mega Man 3. I give the controls as well as graphics a 9 out of 10. The two lags keeps this from getting a 10.

Sound: 10

The Sound was left unchanged in this game, which is good, because it did not need to be changed. The music in Mega Man 3 was amazing and had some awesome and groovy tunes. Shadow Man, Gemini Man, and Spark Man as well as the fortress music are my favorites in this game. The music is still good in this game. Enemy shots still have their amazing sound and Roll's buster sounds like Mega Mans did in the original game. Since everything was the same I give the sound a perfect 10 out of 10 it is just that good.

Replay Value: 9

Mega Man 3 was a game that you just wanted to play again and again no matter how many times you beat it. Roll Chan 3 is no different. This game maintains the feel of the original game. I really enjoyed this game and had fun playing it. Getting to play as Mega Man's Sister Roll makes this game as fun as the original. It feels like it offers something new and a different game when in reality it is just a hack. This is one game you will enjoy playing. So I give it a 9 out of 10. The only reason it does not get a 10 is I play Mega Man 4 and Roll Chan 4 a little bit more than this one.

Depth 10

Mega Man 3 set the bar for depth in Mega Man games. Mega Man games after Mega Man 3 had high amounts of depth in them. So Mega Man 3 started the tradition of having high depth to Mega Man games. Roll Chan 3 is no different at all. It maintains the same depth as the original Mega Man 3. They are secret items to collect, mysterious blocks that hide items, secrets in stages, and the stages are long. The game in itself just like the original game is very long. This is a game that you will not be able to beat in a short amount of time. Its a good thing they give you passwords to continue where you left off. I really like games that have a lot of depth it makes them more fun to play. I give the depth a 10 out of 10.

Difficulty 7

Mega Man 3 was a lot like Mega Man 2 in terms of difficulty. The game had its difficult moments but it was not going to overwhelm you like some future Mega Man games did in terms of difficulty. Roll Chan 3 has the same difficulty as the original game.

The main difficulty in Roll Chan 3 is the same as the original Mega Man 3. Enemies can do a lot of damage in this game. To make it more difficulty some of the enemies hit you as you jump or trying to get over pits. This can cause you to fall into a pit or land on death spikes. Mega Man 3 had more pits than 2 the best I remember. Roll Chan 3 keeps the same amount of pits in it and the same enemies are ready to knock you down into them. Also some of the enemies require several shots to kill. In addition, the Robot Masters some of them can be just brutal to fight. They are fast and their attacks pack a wallop. So yeah, you might die a few times in this game.

However, while the game has its difficulty the game does a lot to help you out too. The game is pretty good at giving you extra lives. In fact, just about every stage has an extra life in it somewhere. The game is also good at giving you E-tanks. You can carry up to 9 of them so use that to your advantage. The extra power ups found with ? blocks also help out too. Some of the Robot Master weapons just shred enemies and bosses.

Overall I give the difficulty of Roll Chan 3 a 7 out of 10. The game does have its difficult moments in it. But compared to future Mega Man games it is not going to overwhelm you. Also the game does a lot to help you out.

Overall Rating 9.4

Roll Chan 3 was a fun game to play and is one of the best hacks of Mega Man 3 that is out there. I really had fun playing this game. It seemed like it offered something new while maintaining the charm as the original Mega Man 3.

I really like how the plot was left unchanged. Mega Man 3 had an awesome plot to it. I remember when I first played the original I thought oh Dr. Wily has turned good and then later in the game the plot twists occurred. I like games that keep you suspense. I also liked how they tried to make it seem like a mystery. So it was nice the makers of this game did not change that feel. I also like how the graphics were not changed. Roll Chan 3 maintains the very smooth graphics the original game did. The music is very good in this game just like it was in the original. I also like the high amount of depth to it. I think the makers of this hack spent a lot of time developing it and it shows in the quality.

The only issue I have with this game is the few spots the controls go stiff in this game. To most people that would not be a bother. The good news is while the stiff controls occur they are minor and do not effect the overall play of the game. They are not going to cause you to fall into a pit or anything like that. I kind of think the game could have been a little more difficult. I like games that challenge you it makes beating them feel like an accomplishment. The game was difficult but not too bad.

Overall I give Roll Chan 3 a very solid 9.4. The game is a good game and one that you will enjoy. I really liked this game and it was nice to maintain the feel of the original game. So would I recommend this game? Yes I would recommend this game. Its a game that is fun for all ages and fun for the entire family. The game is difficult but its not going to frustrate new players. In fact, I would recommend that this could be a hack you could introduce somebody that is new to Mega Man or Mega Man hacks. It is just that good.
