I wasn't fond of sharing this here because of being a family friendly site, but I guess it's not that out of the way considering other threads tackling a similar subject, so here goes.

The newspaper today came with a big surprise, a new business opened up last Friday and it has the potential to become a huge success. It's the first of its kind in Spain, probably the first in Europe and surely one of the very few in the whole world (at least outside of Japan). But here comes the part where it also becomes controversial: it's a brothel, a very particular one.

What makes this business unique is that the only worker a client would see is the receptionist. You may be wondering what about the girls, and here comes the big one: this business doesn't have girls, it has dolls. Very realistic ones, not only for the looks but also for the touch, the owners of the business say. So far they have four, each one with its own physique and currently pointing to any taste, even for anime fans.

It seems that here you must first request a visit. In the contact form you can specify a lot of details: how you want the girl to be dressed, in which position shall her welcome you... The fated day your fantasies are ready to come true just like you wished. The room is provided with a big TV so you can sit back and enjoy, if you need a bit more than a romantic background to get in the mood.

Of course, the controversy is served: was this really necessary? Well, opinions can be mixed about this. It doesn't directly compete with your average brothel, first because of the girls, and also because the experience is totally different. Besides, it doesn't seem to have any legal issue since it doesn't involve living beings, so you can see it as the legal counterpart.

What does the people of the Land of V think about this? Should it be treated like any other brothel, and thus deemed illegal? Should the business expand to more than one local or should more businesses like this one be established? Do you think it really has the bright future it's expected to have?

I wasn't aware that brothels were illegal in Spain. Other western European countries make the sex trade legal and regulate it, providing medical care and safety to the men and women who are working in the industry.

Saying that, I think, "Is it necessary?" is a simple question with a simple answer: Yes. It's meeting a need that people are obviously willing to pay money to enjoy. Is baseball necessary? Is Bud Light necessary? Are cars necessary? It's all in meeting a demand and the business-minded people who are opening it up are creating and finding an innovative way to supply a demand.

I think opening new locations is a good idea depending on success. Of course, they could franchise the store but they can't own the idea. Other companies, I'd bet Japanese or Chinese, would jump all over this quickly because they have the technology and the cultures where work comes before sex. There's a demand for the outlandish in Japan and there would be a booming trade for this. I even see a format for a 'peepshow' type program where a doll like this would be used for the voyeuristic Japanese and tourists.

Will these types of businesses have a bright future? I don't think they'll overtake the sex industry, which has been around since the dawn of time, and I don't think they're ever outclass human interaction. I do think they will have a very well defined place in a very specific paying population. I think there's money to be made and the owners and operators will be successful.

I just don't want to be a janitor at one of those places.

Ghostbear1111 : I'm not really sure if brothels are fully illegal, but they do have problems with the law and the regulations. My impression is that it's not legal, though they can allow it if certain conditions are met. I know they're pursuing "the girls of the road", but probably they leave brothels out if they guarantee decent sanitation or go unnoticed to the average citizen. Spain is a mess in everything and nothing is fully clear.

The dolls are imported from US and Asia, so they didn't really create anything from scratch. Probably they're the only business offering it while the makers of the dolls sell them to the public, and if it was like this maybe they can own the idea of offering this service and even set up a partnership with the makers to have the jointed effort of ever improving. It's not yet been a week so it's not clear if their business runs well, though the expectations are quite high.

It won't overtake the sex industry ever, after all it doesn't matter how close to reality is, it won't ever be real. There will always be a percentage who will prefer the real thing, just like a percentage would prefer this thing. It's just another branch of the industry that has the potential to be a key pillar of it, but it won't become the main pillar.

Sword legion : Except for the part where drugs are illegal. Prostitution was decriminalized in Spain 20 years ago. And dolls, instead of humans, make it even less unlawful.

Vanelan : They surely were first. I didn't say it was the first in the world, just the first in Spain and probably Europe. Plus, some dolls come from Japan (the owners say Asia, but in this kind of matter it's the same as saying Japan) so it would be surprising they didn't think of this besides selling them to the public.

This is a tricky subject indeed. Most countries have a bit of a stigma with prostitution.

Now,as long as it is regulated,I have zero issue with that. You are gambling with someone's life here. But I have to wonder a few things. If you are getting it on with a doll,(albeit a realistic looking one),how can they claim to protect their customers? At least with the people, you can make it mandatory for them to be tested frequently. With dolls, someone can be lazy, maybe wipe it down with a damp cloth or something and say they are fine.

Is prostitution necessary? Yes,it is. As long as people want sex,it will always be needed. But better that they go to a brothel with strict standards for the workers than some street walker and catch a few diseases. This brothel is a unique concept, but I cannot see it overtaking flesh and blood girls.

Oldschool777 : The owners guarantee that all dolls are carefully treated before and after each service. Keeping in mind that they're the first of their kind they surely will want to double check every single detail so they can solidify their business and of course make it grow, so they should be given some trust.

Plus, they seemingly have a wide supply of goods to be used during a service to somehow guarantee you'll feel at ease no matter what. I take that as the owners being determined to become a reference in several standards, so once again, they should be given some trust.

Trust is earned, not given,Palen. And a guarantee is only as good as the guarantor. Now,I would  say that everyone deserves a chance. Even a business like this one. I would seriously hope they would clean and sterilize the dolls after each use. You have to remember, people will always look for a cheap way to do things. Even with fancy hotels. They can swear up and down that the rooms are clean, the linens washed, and it looks fine. But some will just make it look fine, but the truth comes out with a blacklight. I am just saying if one does this, they do so at their own risk. At least with the girls, you can demand a copy of their latest STD tests.

Oldschool777 : I totally understand what you mean by the cheap way to do things because this is Spain, but still they should be given a chance. After all, their only job is to properly clean them (besides the receptionist attending the clients) and they have only four for now. A fancy hotel has tons of rooms which means lots of time needed to prepare them, but with only four I honestly doubt they'll look away from their duties. Plus, each service lasts for a minimum of one hour so they have plenty of time to just look at the clouds passing by before actually needing to work.

Personally, you shouldn't be that picky with a business that has just opened. Maybe after some time has passed you can doubt about them working with the same dedication and care like they did when opening, but at first they'll want to make a name for themselves which means dedicating time at polishing every detail. Otherwise, all they have invested into this project goes to waste.

EX Palen : That can be anywhere in the world. Hell,I have heard of 4 and 5 star restaurants using very cheap and disgusting methods to save money, like running sauce through a strainer to remove bits of food and other matter to reuse it. I have said that everyone deserves a chance to start a business.

True story time. I grabbed some beer for my father from a liquor store that opened recently and when he went to drink it,he said it tasted awful. He tried a second beer from the same box and same result. We later found out that the beer had gone bad. Now we are careful about looking for a date code on the box. Lesson to be learned here: You only have one chance to make a first impression and that store blew theirs.

All I know is that I'm investing in Virex and whoever manufactures that cleaner. It kills AIDS and the rest of the little bugs dancing around in bodily fluids.

And I would expect the level of clean at a place like this would have to be high at any time. The government inspects kitchens, food-handling, other venues where sanitation is a concern. I'm sure they'll find a way to tax and regulate this venture so they can continue to collect revenue from the folks making money. That's how the government works.

It would be interesting to see how the regulation works from a sanitation standpoint. I don't claim to know anything about Spanish culture and I'm not sure if they're neat-freaks or if they just don't care. There are places in the world that simply don't care and you can see all sorts of fun things walking around restaurants. Even the food they give you is suspect. Was it a cat or a dog? Who knows?

We'll find out how it all works. I bet they handle this with a tremendous amount of success. No one just opens a business wondering if it will work. They do their research, they do their operating statements and business plans. It takes effort to get into a market and offer a service. This is unique so they might not know what will happen but I'm betting they're hedging their bets and they know exactly how successful they'll be, especially if the place is nice and clean.

A week or so ago a reporter and a photographer working for the newspaper I read these news in attended this place to do a photo session with one of the dolls. The report said the doll weighed 40 kg (around 90 lbs for imperial units users), so moving them around isn't kind of an easy job. They likened it to those scenes in a movie where they carry a dead body around, and the comparison wouldn't fall very short.

Today, some troubling news arose. This business operated in a rented flat, and the owner was unaware they started this business. Of course, using the flat for something the owner hasn't authorized isn't legal, and thus they had to move out to another place. There's still no news when will they open again, but this episode can't be overlooked. Though they may be not of harm, they have demonstrated to not fully abide by the rules. The business says they moved out because of a lack of space and resources, which may hint to a possible expansion soon, but sounds like a smoke cloud after this turn of events.

Their website now includes a store where you can purchase your own doll. The prices aren't as high as the initial report said, being actually nearly half of it, but still it's quite a bulk. I know I wouldn't be purchasing one, and I doubt they will have a high demand because you'd need a full month of daily "dates" or more to spend the same money you'd use to buy the doll yourself. Of course, it has its own benefits like the level of clean and personal use only, so maybe there can be some people interested.

It looks like it took them less than a month to expand and seemingly re-adapt their offer, which comes to say the degree of success they're having so far. I hope this dark episode isn't the first of more to come because it has demonstrated it can be a fruitful business if handled rightly.

I find the entire thing disgusting no matter if it is an actual person or a doll. I find the thought of this type of business to be creepy. I find the business of sex slavery, prostitution and porn to be immoral, disturbing and disgusting to be with. The problem I have with this is what will this lead too. In some countries people are wanting pedophilia to be acceptable and want child protection laws done away with. So could this lead to baby dolls being made available and then could that lead to people going out and wanting the real thing. What about animals could they be next. They are several disturbing things that this could lead too. It may start off as dolls. But what if somebody is sick in the head could they go out and want the real thing ??. Outside of Japan a lot of countries have not been down this road before.
