In there, i said it was not confirmed whether my stepfather has ALS or not. Only that his chances are immensely big. Now, i just got a call from my mother. She seemed relaxed but that wasn't the main thing. She said this: "He has ALS. It is confirmed." And i did not believe my stepfather now has it for real. He'll have less than 3 years, 3 - 5 years or more than 5 years left. I seriously hope he'll have a good ending before he dies.

What I would suggest to you is look up what you can about ALS,and learn how to deal with it. I am not saying treat your stepfather differently. But you do know that your stepfather is not going to be the same as you once remember him. You may have to help him more than you may be used to. You may want to get a second opinion on his diagnosis. Or you may have to help him without him knowing it. And above all,do not lash out at your stepfather when you may have to help more than you have to. He does not want to do that to you guys at all.

Just let him do what he can for as long as he can, because odds are he won't want to be treated differently or to have someone helping him — it'll make him feel useless or like a burden. Just support him and help when he wants it. Love is all he needs.
