Wingzamma : I'd say yes because I have used these USB Controllers: Super Nintendo, Nintendo Entertainment System, Nintendo 64, Sega and they all worked for me. Then, I just started using the Nintendo 64 for most games now since I prefer analogs and it has worked with other games that are not Nintendo 64. Though, I've gone back to using the keyboard.

This is the Nintenfo 64 controller that I am using https://www.amazon.com/Retrolink-Nintendo-Classic-Enabled-Wired-Controller/dp/B008L3UUPS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1478888176&sr=8-1&keywords=usb+nintendo+64+controller If you can find one cheaper I'd say go for it. To me is preference because I like the shape and how easy it is to  hold.

I personally use a WIRED XBox 360 for Windows controller. It works great on every system / emulator I've ever played so far.

If you'd prefer something more like a PS controller, there's a few Logitech models that work just as well, though I can't remember specifically which ones.

I actually made a thread about this myself awhile back lol. As long as it's wired and the computer registers when you press each button and move the analogs / d-pad, it should work fine when you configure the controls for the emulator

--EDIT--
Van mentioned the Logitech model I couldn't remember the name of lol. I've seen quite a few people recommend that one.

I personally recommend the Logitech F310.

They work particularly well and can be used for more than just the RGR.

Yeah I mean I actually use, and I dunno if this would be useful I use my ps2 controller for certain games I play on my laptop. I brought a special USB connector to play it really it saves time. Also van has suggested something way better though.

Vanelan : I decided to take a look  up seeing this controller and it reminds me of....a xbox controller. Is it possible to find one that I can use that has Playstation controls. Or is that not possible? Because I need something for steam.

Eniitan : Are you looking at the right controller?
The F310 is shaped exactly like the PS2/3 controller and has the same number of buttons.
