How often do you use Remote Play? I personally find it an incredibly handy feature, and one I'll utilize MUCH more once I get an internet connection at my house so I can play PS4 anywhere. Even now though I still use it frequently, mainly at night when people are trying to sleep and the light from my television keeps them awake.
Thankfully some developers (like Koei Tecmo and Rebellion) actually take the time to implement good Remote Play controls, while others just slap the defaults on even when they clash horrendously with the gameplay, because they have to implement it and half broken or not, it's technically implemented so it works.

So how about you? Do you often use Remote Play for your PS3 or PS4? And yes this is more so aimed toward PS Vita Remote Play, but PC Remote Play is fine in this thread as well.

While I've seen the term Remote Play being used rather frequently, I never took the time to look at what it actually meant.

I'm tempted to try out PC Remote Play now. I don't and will never have a Vita, so that's my only choice available. Depending on the things it offers and allows me to do, probably I can use it even more frequently than the console itself lol

I had to look up what remote play was. It seems like it's just for multiple platforms to play a single game from different locations?

Can anyone be more specific and explain it from a real life experience? What exactly is going on?

I used to use it quite a bit back in the day, but I don't anymore since there's no reason to (me and my dad have our own PS3's now, even though he NEVER uses his lol). That being said, my version of playing it was for the PSP connected to my PS3, not the Vita.

I had a ton of PS1 classic RPGs on my PS3 hard drive. My PSP memory card, of which I only had one, could only fit one of those large games on it (and there was only 1 card for sale in a 50+ mile radius because I bought it so late in the PSP's lifespan). Since the PS3 was in the living room, where my parents watch TV, I would have the PS3 on running one of those games playing it on the PSP so the TV was still free for their use. The signal was strong enough for me to be upstairs playing in my room with the console a floor down.

Good times. Beat Xenogears, Legend of Dragoon, Legend of Mana, Parasite Eve, and quite a few other classics mostly playing that way ^^

I used it a little bit with the Vita at first, but realized I prefer playing on a big TV.
I also tried it on PC, but the frame rates and resolution aren't as good as I feel like they should be.

I never use it. I don't know if this is just the case for me or its this way for most people who have tried it on phone but I downloaded the app once with my smartphone and found it has way too much input lag to actually be usable. Maybe it could work with something like a turn based JRPG but otherwise I don't see myself ever using it. I don't have a vita so I can't use it for remote play (that and Persona 4 Golden are really the only things I'd even consider owning one for). I only recently heard PC remote play have become a thing. I don't know if my laptop would like it if I tried using that though so I'll probably refrain. It's not a deal breaker since I game in solitude inside my room which I quite prefer to being in the living room or somewhere else.

I use it when I want to play a game but don't really want to be in my room. Though it really only works for the games that don't require a good frame rate like Final Fantasy VII, as when I try to play something like Overwatch or Gravity Rush the lag is a little bit too much to handle.

EX Palen : I've never tried it on the PC so I don't know anything about that, but it's really handy on the PS Vita by my estimation. Bear in mind that I always have it linked directly to my PS4 and never have tried it through an internet connection. It may lag a little. Let me know how it works for you.

Ghostbear1111 : It allows you to play your PS4 even when you can't be near the actual PS4. The game runs on the PS4 itself but the audiovisual feed is sent to the PS Vita wirelessly (though it also shows on the television if you have it turned on) and the game is controlled from the PS Vita instead of the Dualshock 4. As for PC remote play, I think you need to hook the Dualshock 4 to the PC via a USB cable, but I'm not sure.

So basically it's so you can play PS4 on the go and not just at home.

Mynamescox44 : Yeah I was thinking PSP and PS3 worked that way too, but I wasn't sure because I never could afford either of them before. And all games support remote play from PS4, but I'm thinking with PS3 it was more up to the developer wasn't it?

Vanelan : I definitely prefer gaming on the big screen as well, but Remote Play on the PS Vita is still very handy when I need to turn the television off but can't turn the game off because I'm in the middle of something. But given the chance I'll play anything on the television before the smaller screen of a Vita or phone. The rest of my Vita time is spent playing games that aren't on PS4, or playing a game that supports cross save/load.

Zlinqx : Same here. Besides the television is just a better experience when it comes to gaming, but as I said, the remote play comes in handy sometimes when I want to play but can't. It also comes in handy as a third controller when I want to play a three player game.

Minuano : Really? I've never had lag problems with it unless the signal is about to drop because I'm getting too far away. Then again I always hook directly to the PS4 instead of through the internet. Also I use the PS Vita instead of phone or PC.

Eirinn : I have a week packed with tests, so I won't be able to pull this off in a while.

I'm not sure if I will ever use this frequently. Since I don't use my PS4 frequently, I prefer playing on the real console, so unless this feature offers something that casual playing cannot it will be a one-time only thing.

Eirinn :
As far as I know, the game had to be compatible with the PSP to allow remote play from the PS3. Unless the feature was made specifically for that individual PS3 game (which I'm not sure they ever even made a single one like that), you couldn't play actual PS3 games on the PSP. The only games I could use it for were a couple Indie PSN titles, and PS1 titles on the PS3's hard drive. Basically, if I couldn't download it directly to my PSP in the first place, Remote Play wasn't an option either.

I don't know if they still do this, but when you used to browse PSN, there would be Red / Yellow / etc bubbles in the bottom right corner of the game's description window that said "PS3" or "PSP." Those let you know which systems the game was compatible with. If it didn't list "PSP," then you couldn't use Remote Play on that game.
