You know how you could be at a vending machine, or whatever else kind of machine and you buy something and it turns out there's change left over in the change slot. What do you do? Do you just leave it alone and take your stuff or do you take it?

I was buying a train ticket last night and found a bunch of gold dollar coins left in the machine and I took them because the station was closed.

You got good topics. Well, if the person is nearby I'd give them their change back. But, if no one is around I'd take it- finders keepers losers weepers. I mean the way I see it you're wasting money- I am sure tons of money specially pennies go to waste every single day, either flushed, thrown in the trash, floor, street etc. This all counts as money so to me I would not want to waste it plus, I save as much change as I can and just go to a  bank and get some cash if I need it. Now, if I find bills hey I am keeping it unless of course I know for a fact who the owner is otherwise I keep it. Anyone can go claim it now a days so I am not going to  be a fool and handed over to a smarty pants. I have donated money, time, food, and items to the needy so I think I have built some good karma. I've found money before but, I've also lost money right out of my pocket and never got it back so clearly someone had a "lucky" day at my expense. If I lost a lot of money, I would love and pray that someone returned it- so I would try to do that first and if not keep it and do good with it.

jlove92 : In this case, there were actually a lot of dollar coins in the machine, so I find it hard to believe that someone just forgot to take that much out and left without it.

I actually go around checking the coin returns on soda machines for spare change. It's one of the only sources of income I have lol. If I see someone leave their change, I always take it to them. Otherwise, I'll pocket it. It's usually just a couple of dimes or nickles.

I would take it. Call me what you will, but if you do not take your change, someone else will. Besides that is what Coinstar and change counting machines at your bank are for.

Id take it, its free money no matter how small. However if I see the person leave without taking it I will try to give it to him.

If someone was just walking away from the machine I would call their attention and let them know they have money left in the coin slot. If no one was around, I would take the change and put it in places where little kids could find it, on the ground or near areas where children might play. It's more fun for them to find a quarter or a dollar coin compared to some adult who'll probably not make the effort to pick up a quarter or a dime.

I don't need to keep a few extra coins. I figure why not make some kid's day and let them discover money. I remember how awesome it was when I was a kid. I'd share the experience and let some other kid do it too.

Well....I would actually try and find the person. Or if the person just left I would call them back to get it. If there are no other options I would take it either keep it for myself or give it to someone who needs it more than me lets say a poor homeless person for an example. This is what I would really do. ^^

zanderlex : if someone leaves it there by accident and I see who it belongs to then I will give the change to them otherwise I just keep it since I don,t know who it belongs to I work at a department store down where I live a lot of the big stores such as wall mart have locks on their shopping carts where you have to use a dollar coin to unlock the lock if you want to use a cart but if you return it you get your dollar back once in the while I find the odd cart left in the parking lot that has not been returned with the dollar still in but unless I see who it belongs to I take the cart back and keep the dollar since anyone could say it,s theirs even if it,s not

I take it. It's extremely rare to notice the change while someone is still there. More likely it has been sitting there for hours and it would be impossible to find the person. That change is mine now

If I saw the person who left it, I'd give it to them. If no one is nearby I'd probably keep it. I could leave it there but the next person to use it is probably just going to take it in stead. I wouldn't feel bad about it since the chance of finding the person who lost it is almost non existant.

Depends on how much is there and if the person is still around, there was a time I found almost a dollar in there and nobody was around so I took it. Probably a dick move, but there was no one around. There was a time there was almost the same amount in a machine and someone in front of me, and I told them they left the change and I gave it to them. Although I have walked away from a vending machine before, and left 75 cents in there and someone brought it to me like an hour later. It was when I was working at my job. I actually said, thanks but they could keep it.

Generally I just put it back in the coin-return since I don't need it and maybe someone else does.

If I notice it before I put my money in, i'll use it to get my soda or whatever. If I notice it after, I'd probably just leave it. The way I see it is like it's a take-a-penny system. If you get there and need a quarter, take it, otherwise just leave it for the next person.

Usually if I find someone else's money or change already in a machine I either take it or use it on top of whatever I'm purchasing. One time though I went to fill up my gas tank and realized the person who used the pump before me still had money on there pump left over and I used what was left of there money before going inside to add to it.

I'd take it, since I probably won't be able to find the person that had it first. I might not even be able to tell who. Lies exist.
However if by some magic I find the legit person, I will give it back.

It really depends what the machine is for. If it's a vending machine (Which I don't normally use) I'll probably just leave it there to be honest as it's never a lot and it's usually just pocket change like dimes and nickels. However, if it's a parking meter, I'll take it and put it in after I've paid for the next person to use it. It's almost like the next person is getting a discount on their parking pass!
