Alright so I was like chilling on the couch having a good time, watching a movie and exploring the internet, when all of a sudden the one thing happened that everyone dreads the most.

My phone just somehow, someway, slipped through my fingers and smashed onto the floor. You know how when something bad is about to happen in a second or so you get this weird feeling of "I f***ed up"? I felt it really strongly at that moment.

I picked up my phone which appeared to be fine and felt an instant relief, but that relief turned to horror as it locked itself and upon unlocking it I see these massive white bars all over my screen. The phone still works but my touchscreen is RIP.

Anyone ever had something like this happen before?

RIP Furret's phone

I never broke my phone before, but I did break my mp3 player before. I don't even know how I broke it, but one day, I was going to use it, the screen was all cracked on the inside. It's now a mess of black and blue ink all over the screen. Also, my cousin's tablet had the white bars all over it just like your phone. I honestly don't think I broke it, and if I did, it was an accident, but my cousin claimed I stepped on his tablet and broke the screen that way. (Yeah, I don't remember stepping on it but eh :/ )

I've never had that feeling actually. Is that weird? But yeah I broke my phone last Thanksgiving by falling on it while playing with my nephew. That was no fun. The screen was busted inside and half of it was black while the other half displayed the top and bottom of the display overlapping one another. I somehow managed to read through all of that along with the images jumping around and glitching about and I got a few numbers off of it (because I never back anything up). Later I found out that numbers apparently automatically back up on android which is something of a relief along with an invasion of my privacy, but whatever. It's probably mentioned in the ToS that I never read.

Annnnd a few weeks later mom knocked my old Infuse off of a table and it broke too. Though that one probably broke because it was so old (screen was fine, something inside went kaput). That one had all of my music, pictures, videos, games, files, and everything else on it. And again, I never back anything up...yeah. :|

Yeap, I had a phone that would not power on anymore (samsung galaxy) and took it to my service provider for them to say it's unfixable and had to spend US$100 to buy another phone

I'm sure if you go though the tech forum you will find a good chunk of rants about my phones breaking lol. Though phones breaking for me is common because I have a lot of phones, each used just as much for different reasons. I don't have o worry about dropping my main phone though, the Nokia, I can smash it on the ground as hard as I can and have nothing happen to it yet my iPhone fell off a mattress that was on the floor and the screen shattered. The worst thing that happened to my phone was my last Nokia when the little piece behind the power button, the one that actually pushes into the phone to press the wires broke off the button. So it was fine I just couldn't turn it on or off so had to have it plugged In all the time.

I don't understand how anyone can enjoy a movie and be looking at their phone at the same time.
I'll never understand this generation...
Anyway, while I never broke my phone to the point it was unusable, I have dropped it and cracked the screen.
I have also lost my phone though.

I can't really remember for me I think one point it did, but I can't remember what it was sadly since this was many moons ago for me. Sorry to hear about yours its not a good experience to go through. Its sad how this types of things can happen to anyone at anytime. Since I got my new phone from some years ago, and still works I haven't had any problem with it so far.....so I have yet to seen anything else happen with my phone like what happened to my old one. '-'

I can relate since I've had it happen twice. The first time was with the very first smartphone I had back in 6th grade which I had placed on a table and accidentally knocked it off without thinking about it.  It was on a concrete floor so it caused to screen to crack and the phone pretty much stopped working entirely, wouldn't turn on. The other case was with the last smartphone I had on the same type of floor earlier this summer. The ironic thing is I had a protective shell on it at all times that had a flap that protected the screen too. It had probably saved it from breaking in the past but this time it slipped out of my hand while at the gym and it landed on the screen with the flap open somehow. It resulted in the screen having lots of cracks but it turned on so I  was thinking it might be maybe functional at the most basic level. Turned out the touch screen no longer worked either and even stood out a bit. Not only that but when I got back home I noticed it had seemingly caused the phone to bend too.

Not a great day, but I did manage to get a new phone a few weeks after that so it worked out in the end. I'm trying to be more careful with my current phone which I don't have any shell for yet hopefully it won't meet the same fate.

Never broke my phone. I don't use it often enough that I would be in a scenario that my phone would break. I have had about 6 smartphones since 2008/9. I haven't broke any piece of tech yet. (Bet I have jinxed that now).

When I read the title of this post, I thought it was zanderlex lol.

Yeah, I have had about 10 phones break. Galaxy, HTC 3D Evo, Nokia Lumia, ugh I just get cheap phones now.. I have this LG Leon phone for almost a year and half of the screen is cracked so sliding my finger makes the glass break more. Should buy a new one but, I don't really like phones. I don't like texting, or messaging yet I love chat boards like these lol. Next phone I'll get a darn cover or something.

Sorry to hear about that... If I had the right screwdriver, I could probably fix that. I'd have to swim across the Atlantic ocean, though.

It's funny you should bring that up. I've never broken a phone, despite having dropped it several times. It always landed on the corner. Back when people still had home phones though, we would have one for a while and it would start doing stupid crap. Dad would get mad at it and eventually just smash it in a few hundred pieces on the floor. Then he'd holler into the next room comically "Honey, we need a new phone."

And yeah... I have a habit of second guessing everything I do, think or say, so I get that feeling all the time.

*Hugs you* You poor thing… No, this doesn't tend to happen to me, but I know plenty of people that this has happened to, and it's always a heart-wrenching sight. There were even some that didn't have enough money to get their phones fixed or replaced, so they were stuck with a cracked/broken phone for the longest time.

Did you have any sort of cover over the phone? I heard from a friend that having a hard cover over a soft gel case has saved their phone several times already (they tend to drop their phones on the ground in the manner that you described, but unfortunately, they don't have the reflexes to be able to try to catch it on the way down so the phone almost always ends up dead).

My phone is on the verge of breaking right now. It's completely okay physically, besides the power button not working anymore, but it's just so slow now especially when it tries to update, and it also doesn't really charge half the time which can get really annoying. I've never had a phone 100% break though, I've always replaced before it was too late.
