Bowser Jr. the little spoiled and menacing mini-likeness of Bowser. This little guy has been around since Super Mario Sunshine, August 26, 2002. But, what do we really know about him? He is similar to, and often compared with the Koopalings (of which there are seven). In fact, when Bowser Jr. first showed up, some fans were upset and believed that he was just another Koopaling. However, I know that is not the case. Why? Well, let me explain. Bowser Jr. is a unique character that seems to have a different relationship with Bowser than the Koopalings. Although both are commonly referred to as Bowser's children; the Koopalings I believe to be adopted. And I don't think that Bowser Jr is actually Bowser's son at all, but rather someone else, or something else. First, let's start with the Koopalings. In the original Super Mario Bros. 3 manual, the Koopalings are clearly stated to be Bowser's 7 children. Yet nintendo has stated that the Koopalings actually don't have a relation to Bowser. Then why the contradiction? As MatPat explains in his game theory video Bowser's Broken Home (Game Theory: Bowser's BROKEN HOME in Super Mario - YouTube) The reason that these can both be true is because they are adopted. I'm inclined to believe this, as they only have some vague similarities, and never really seem to care about Bowser or have any relationship whatsoever. Plus, they are not usually around, only appearing in the Super Mario Bros series. This could be indicative of the fact that they are adopted and now are just kind of out there doing whatever they feel like. Anyways, I'm getting off track. I was hoping that Mat would do a theory about Bowser Jr. but since he did not, I will.

As similar as Bowser Jr. is to Bowser, and given the relationship that they seem to share, I sincerely doubt that Bowser Jr. was adopted as the Koopalings were. However, there is still one issue? Who is Bowser Jr's mother? In Super Mario Sunshine, Bowser lies to Jr and tells him that Princess Peach is his mother. But of course, we know that is not so. At the end this was proven to be a lie. So, the question remains. Who's Jr's mommy? Nintendo has never answered this question. You know what else nintendo has not done? Release a timeline for the Mario franchise. Why? Perhaps they are hiding something, something that the timeline would help us discover. What if Bowser Jr. wasn't really Bowser's son, but instead young Bowser himself? In the video above, Bowser is described as little more than a sad and lonely character that is merely trying to make a family for himself and for the young koopas so that they would not have to experience what he went through. What if we go just a step further and say that Bowser is actually trying to change his past and not go through what he did?

Okay, so my hypothesis definitely is going to sound crazy, but I feel that it does have some merit. In the absence of the mention of any mother whatsoever, we are left to wonder. Now if my theory would happen to what is really going on, then that means there are some basic time rules that are being broken. Also, how would Bowser pull it off? Well, thanks to mario's time machine, we know that Bowser is capable of building a time machine. (Who knows, maybe he's responsible in some way for the events in Mario and luigi partners in time?) After the events of this game however, he may be trying to keep it on the down low. But here's a little wrinkle with that. If bowser did have a time machine, why wouldn't he use it to his advantage in some behemoth scheme. I suppose that it could be argued that the Yoshi's island games are just that, and Bowser isn't too creative, but that still doesn't feel right. Remember what I was saying earlier, about the timeline? Yes, that would be helpful in either proving or refuting my next point. In Mario and Luigi Partners in time, Mario and Luigi partner up with their baby selves, and Bowser parterning up with Baby bowser, who just so happens to look like the exact same as Bowser Jr. minus the fangs drawn on his bib. At the end of the game you beat all the ever so foul shroobs. Professor E Gadd. uses a machine that just so happpens to look like a more primitive version of the Fludd. And at the end, Baby Bowser wants to stay in his kingdom with his treasure but instead is dragged off by Kamek. (To another time, perhaps?) So is it possible that this game occurs before Super Mario sunshine? I believe so. There is one more thing; Bowser Jr's brush. From the symbol on the back of it, we know that it was created be E. Gadd, same person who made the Flash Liquidizer Ultra Dousing Device. Now, when were Bowser and E. gadd in the same game, same place. Oh that's right, Mario and Luigi Partners in time. At the end of the game when you go back to the castle in the present timeline; you find Bowser fainted in the castle, near the time machine. No one knew why he was there. Coinicidence? Not! Perhaps at this time, bowser was trying to meet his younger self and perhaps stole the brush at this time. I don't have any evidence to prove this point, but in light of everything I have covered so far, it really lines up.

As much as I would like to leave things here and be done. There is one more thing. If Bowser Jr. is a time clone from around the time of Mario and Luigi partners in time, then he would have already had his own identity and would not have been lied to so easily. But, what if Bowser went down a time hole before this point, when he was just a baby, not knowing anything? It doesn't seem that anyone bothered closing the time holes. (If i'm wrong let me know. Didn't actually finish the game just saw the ending on youtube.)
So this would seem likely. I admit that my proof lies on little more than absence of a better explanation, a game that was released after Bowser Jr's original appearance, and a lot of what ifs. But this is my first time trying to make and prove a solid theory. Let me know what you think. Tell me where I could improve, things I missed; and anything else. Do remember it is only a theory, not necessarily true. I hope you enjoyed this; I know I had a pretty good time writing it.

A user of this : Oh yes, that totally makes sense because...Miyamoto said so? Sorry, I did hear that this is the official explanation. But we both know that nintedo is pretty lazy with the story of the mario series. So no, I don't buy it, and it has nothing to do with a REAL explanation for Bowser Jr. Besides, this is the whole point of theorizing, to go behind what people are saying to find the truth. Perhaps his statement should not be taken literally and could mean that Bowser Jr. is a figural representation of his own son. Though that would make Shigeru Bowser...But anyways, thanks for the input.

First off, this thread is wrong.
Bowser Jr didn't debut in Super Mario Sunshine,  He originally Debuted as a character in Yoshi's Island for the Snes.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=anv1LZzX-Qw

Second,  It's a hard pill to shallow for me to believe Mario's time machine to be cannon here because it's not even a story driven game, it was intended for school purposes

3rd. I agree It's possible that all of the Kooplings could be adopted and are possibly Slibings.    Take a look at Koopa kid, baby bowser, and Bowser JR.. They're all very similar in design, just one of them is slightly chubbier then the other.   Another noticeable difference is Bowser JR has a scarf of teeth, the others do not.

The Design Similarities are Uncanny between all 3 of them.
Funny enough, all 3 characters have been cannon enough to appear in the Mario Party Series.

FaithFighter : Yeah, I doubt how serious he was being, but he did say he was his son. Which...Makes me wonder what Mrs. Miyamoto looks like.

That's an interesting theory you've got though! Although when Bowser and Bowser Jr interact, they don't really talk to each other like Baby Bowser and Older Bowser did in PiT. So unless there was some sort of effort to keep the fact he IS Bowser hidden, I don't really know who he'd be. All I know is, I hate that with the Koopalings back in quaction, they never talk to Bowser Jr. Just think og the interesting conversations about him stealing their job that they'd have... Although I'm sure that would also lead to something of a hint to their relations to Bowser too. NINTENDO PLEASE JUST GIVE US THIS THING!

SuperCrash64 : Okay, the character in Yoshi's Island for the snes, while appearing to be Bowser Jr. is actually baby bowser. However, if it were considered Bowser Jr. that would just prove my theory. That is true about the mario time machine thing. That is why I also added that part at the end where it is possible where Bowser goes through the time hole vs. the time machine thing. And I also did mention that the time machine theory had some issues. And also, thanks for the input.

A user of this : Lol! I know, there is soooo much untapped potential story we could get from Bowser Jr alone. Not to mention his missing mama!

I can't say your theory is exactly right though,  Yoshi's island happened after the events of Super Mario World.

I think Nintendo just created him as a Miniature version of Bowser..
You gotta Remember Bowser isn't the only the character that has a jr to it.

Donkey Kong has the same sort of thing.  There's Donkey Kong jr as well.

If Nintendo is to clarify the Origin Of Bowser. Jr  then they should do the same with DK Jr as well.

SuperCrash64 : Not trying to be rude here, but what does super mario 2, Yoshi's island being after super mario world have to do my theory? I never said anything about super mario world. Only, super mario sunshine. (In case that is what you meant. Yoshi's Island is also released before Sunshine. Again not necessarily meaning occurring before. But given the events of the game, I think that it is safe to say.  Mario's timeline is very confusing, but the Yoshis Island games are at the beginning of the timeline.  And the whole dk jr thing? While that may be true, it doesn't really strike anything against my theory. To summarize my theory : Bowser jr. is actually not Bowser's, but rather is  a sort of time clone of Bowser brought to the present so that the young Bowser would not experience the lonliness that the elder had, and possibly to create an heir for himself.

Bowser Jr has to be the son of Bowser as he looks a lot like Bowser so it makes sense.
