For most games, as expected, you conduct business at appropriate venues such as stands, stores and inns in RPGs or garages and dealerships in racing games. This is logical. But for Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII, they wanted to break that mold and think outside the box; experiment with things that have yet to be tried. So, set in the Final Fantasy VII universe three years after meteorfall, where would a mutant, gun-slinging, former Turk stop to upgrade his sidearm and replenish his ammunition and potions before going toe to toe with the Tsviets and the Deepground army? I'm a little surprised that the best Square-Enix could come up with are randomly placed jukeboxes.....

Of course, I don't always have a flair for the obvious. Does anyone have an explanation or theory for this?

Oh, you mean you didn't know? Vincent was all about them classic 50's tunes man. Oh yeah, and swing dancing XD

In all seriousness, I was a little confused about this myself. I can't think of any logical explanation behind it, other than they just wanted to try something new or give off a certain vibe with it. I mean generally the places you go that have (or used to have) jukeboxes were somewhere people went to relax or blow off steam, so maybe that's the feeling they were trying to give off?

It doesn't help the game comes from Japan, who use little to no logic in a lot of the things they do lol. Though that being said, I kind of liked the concept when I played through the game, abstract as it was.

Mynamescox44 : I can almost picture that if I apply it to him before the experiments. Maybe it's the suit...

Now that you mention it, they were mostly placed in public places. That doesn't account for the ones in the forest outside the WRO headquarters or at the bottom of Deepground, though.... It was fairly convenient, though. It's pretty unlikely that you would've been able to find an open weapons stand in Edge after everyone was abducted.

Oh I know why: because why not?

You have a valid question here, and while I have no real answer, I would like to take the opportunity to say that this is one thing I love about video games: they can completely abandon logic and do weird stuff, and it works. I love it because we always train our minds to be logical about everything so seeing games completely go against any logic is just refreshing, especially in an otherwise serious game.

And maybe that's why they did it: to break from the seriousness so it didn't bog you down too much. Kind of like Nathan Drake always making wise cracks during Uncharted games, I mean who in their right mind shoots fifty people in the head and exclaims "D*mn I'm good at this!"? Lol It seems like a defense mechanism to keep him from acknowledging the gravity of what he's done in killing all of these people with little to no good reasoning. It also serves to keep the game from becoming too serious. You don't usually want to walk away from a game depressed, do you? Same goes for any action game or film, there's always some humor or something that's pretty out of place when you take a step back and look at it. Maybe it really is to keep from overloading us. I don't know. But I do know that it really improves the experience.

Vincedge Valentine gains his magical powers through Linkin Park songs, obviously. That's the only logical conclusion.

That's also how Neku Sakuraba controls psychs in The World Ends with You
It's also the secret of Shadow the Hedgehog's Chaos Control

It's a running theme obviously.

I guess it was just some kind of design choice? I don't know. It's the same reason you get radiation shots, shotgun shells, and chips from vending machines in System Shock 2.

I wonder what the character limit on this thing is.

It could just be a play on words since the title is "Dirge of Cerberus."
The Japanese love their subtle word play.

I am guessing, since the Japanese can get almost anything they want from sodas to hot foods to eggs and batteries, why not put a recharge and save point as a jukebox? And before you say I am full of it,it is true, you can get nearly anything at a machine from coffee to beer to sake to cigarettes.

I guess it shows how much they value honor and truth. In America we would wreck the machines or try to hack it.

Eirinn : Now that I think about it, I guess videogames have steadily been over complicated for a while now... It's one thing not to break canon in a big, intricate plot, but it occurs to me now nitpicking the slightest details for the sake of realism or even hyper realism for a fantasy game defeats the purpose because it's the counterintuitive that makes it a fantasy to begin with.

Vanelan : I actually imagined wordplay in Japanese to be rather difficult. Of course, that from someone who basically understands nothing about the Japanese language...

Oldschool777 : Oh, I believe it. My dad had a friend of his that lived in Germany that said there were kids taking some pocket change and buying a beer from a machine on the way to school lol. Even though I've always been against the forced multi-cultural agenda, I do believe that a lot of people could learn a few things about honor and honesty from other cultures. Most moral compasses in this part of the world were set by biblical principals, and with the growing amount of secular people, a lot are completely throwing the rule book out of the window.

Truth and honor has been the cornerstone of many societies. Now in America,if we had beer vending machines we would lose out minds.
1. Kids would be at them 24/7.
2. They would be vandalized and/or damaged.
3. You would have people hacking the machine for free stuff.

Damn, imagine if we had weapon or ammo vending machines? We'd be going straight to hell in a handbasket.
