GameMaker is probably one of the best all around programs for creating just about any kind of game. It's one of the easiest game development programs to learn and it's one of the quickest to make games with. It lets you create more simple games with its easy to use (no programming required) editor and when you get more experience (and have a little more time) you can create more advanced games with the GameMaker Language. I honestly think it's a better program than any of the RPG Makers because it offers far more features and lets you do things at a more professional level. There are lots of addons for GameMaker that help you speed up the game development process. Even though you can already make RPGs with GameMaker, there's an addon that specializes in helping you make RPGs with GameMaker (which makes it more similar to RPG Maker) called YoYo RPG (which I'm also selling). A great way to learn how to make games with GameMaker is by analyzing the source code of games made with it. You can get source code in the Vizzed Market for the following games: Another Perspective, Death Ray Manta, L'Abbaye des Morts, Spelunky Classic, Spoiler Alert, Super Crate Box and WizardWizard. These games were also all made into Steam games and I'm also selling the Steam codes for a lot of these games.

At the moment I'm selling GameMaker: Studio Professional for 225,000 Viz which is a lot I know but like I said, it retails for $149.99 (and I've seen codes of it sell for a lot as seen here). As of this post I have 7 codes available for sale and because of the price, I'm sure it'll be available for a while (but the price will eventually go up due to Supply & Demand) so if it is something you're interested in but don't currently have the Viz for, you most likely have plenty of time to earn Viz for it (which is pretty easy to earn).

I hope this isn't a dumb question but how useful is this for computer science majors at college? Would the free version be enough? 

I'm just wondering. Currently the only languages I know is Python, Java, and some html/css. 

Mohammedroxx3 : The free version doesn't let you sell your games as far as I know. I'm not sure how useful it'd be for a computer science major, maybe that'd be something you'd want to Google.

This is pretty good people who will be looking into these types of things would want to look at this. I see it will be like big help among those who were searching for this type of thread but couldn't find the kind of answers that they were looking for. This might be interesting for people who want to make games and need tips in order to make their very first game. Though, I've been used to RPG Maker, from the XP version to the latest one MV. I started two projects with RPG Maker VX Ace and RPG Maker MV, one being a aventure/puzzle game set and the other being a comical RPG. I don't really know at the moment if I consider using another game making software. Someday eventually, just to see what else I can make.

The code for the program worked, the one I got for RPG did not... I get a blank screen from the URL I am pointed to.
Is there a way I can get a key or something instead?

Damn, I'd love to have it since I want to start making games for real but... last one is on 450,000 Viz... that'll take a LOT of grinding
