I recently bought a Play Station Vita. And so far I have found it to be Amazing.   I have Persona 4 Golden, Final Fantasy x/x-2 remastered, and several games on the Play Station Store.  i happen to think the graphics are amazing for a handheld device. much better then the Play Station Portable i used to own.  Great Battery life too, if I must say so. But if i have to complain about one thing, it would be the lack of Play Station Vita Exclusive games.   it would seem that Sony has completely given up on the commercial value of its Vita system, and i just cannot see why. i would give it a ten out of ten.  So I scoured the labyrinth that is the internet for more info concerning the Play Station vita, and i happened to find that it was not well received. I cannot even fathom why. but, as I read further i discovered that people didn't take kindly to the Vita because there weren't that many Vita-exclusive games,  as compared to the other leading handheld, the  Nintendo 3ds. but, if that is the case, why didn't Sony make more Vita-compatible games?  it seems like a self-defeating prophecy to me. Would anyone care to discuss and or elaborate further with me? i would really appreciate it.  thank you in advance.

Oh Boy the battery life is AMAZING. You can leave it in sleep more for 2-3 days and still have it at 90% or more. I know this because I just did this a few days ago, and my Vita is 3 YEARS OLD.

Sony doesn't make the games silly, the developers make them, and if one developer thinks that a game won't do well on the Vita, they won't make it for the Vita, and then other devs will see that and follow.

zanderlex : Oh.  You are probably right in that respect.  i kinda feel like a newbie now lol  =). On the related topic i left my Vita on to see how long the battery would last , and it hit 15 hours!  i could not believe it.   i cannot believe this system did so bad!   with persona 4 golden, and final fantasy x/x-2, it should have stayed afloat with those alone!

zanderlex : Actually in a sense Sony does make some of the games, those made by companies they own that is.

Michael Vivona - You are so right, the PS Vita IS an amazing handheld. I don't even like handhelds but the Vita is an exception - I love it about as much as I love my PS4 even, and that's saying a lot as the PS4 is my favorite console ever and I've been gaming since the Atari 2600/VCS.

The battery life is incredible, the UI is super clean and intuitive (LOVE how customizable it is), and the power, oh gosh the power. Lol This thing is a regular power house and when in the right hands can nearly challenge the PS3 in graphics (nearly)!

The detractors say that the PS Vita has no games but as you've seen that's a lie. It has over 1,000 games and it's library is still growing. It doesn't have as many AAA games as the 3DS, but in my opinion the games it has more than make up for that and the few exclusives it's enjoyed blow away the competition (Freedom Wars? Uncharted?). Sadly yes, Sony gave up on the Vita as far as allocating any funds or workers to work on first party games and even denied their developers the opportunity when they asked if they could make another game for it after Golden Abyss. Shuhei Yoshida said (whether it was a slip up or not, Idk) that they more or less quit making Vita games because they were spending that money and time on PSVR instead, and that's a crying shame because this thing is in my opinion, the best piece of hardware to ever hit the handheld market. It's capabilities according to the developers of Project CARS is nearly on par with that of the Wii U - a home console. That may be underpowered for a console, but for a handheld it's insane.

Fanboying aside, the PS Vita is a great system, and in my opinion (and many others - the Vita has sold much better than most seem to think) it's the best choice for anyone shopping for a handheld system.

It has some interesting things to it in the form of better graphical capabilities and longer battery life but the games is what most people care about and I think most are of the opinion including myself that the Vita can't compete with the 3ds in that regard. Final Fantasy X/X-2 and Persona 4 Golden are both great games, but they're also both primarily remastered posts so they're not really new games that will incentivize  people to buy it. They're also both JRPGs and not everyone are JRPG fans. What's more is you should also consider that they were released fairly late on and before that the Vita had even less games that gave people reason to buy it in stead of a 3ds or simply another playstation console. Sure the vita has had a select few interesting exclusive games like Gravity Rush and Tearaway but even those end up getting ported to other playstation consoles so there's not much reason to buy it. Not to mention they simply lack the heavy hitting power of 3ds exclusives.

A 3ds has tons of both first party exclusive games and many lesser known 3rd party gems. The Pokemon games alone are probably enough to sway a lot of people to pick it. In general though it has many games you wouldn't find on any other console since they aren't ported and that appeals to a variety of people everyone from the casual gamers to the more serious ones. That's not even including the even bigger library of DS games that was even more successful. So the amazing library of games available on the 3ds is really the reason Vita hasn't been able to compete.

The real problem is Sony's expensive proprietary memory cards.

They did the same thing with PSP and its probably gonna be the downfall of the Vita...

There's a thing they call the Vita

The Weeb Machine.

It's mostly because it's game library is nearly all anime stuff so it's pretty much catering to a minority, at least in western culture. That's part of the reason the Vita isn't very positively hyped

Vanelan : Oh boy dude, I have been limited to putting all my stuff on one small 16 GB card and deleting stuff when I need to put more stuff on because I refuse to go out and pay $30 to $60 just so I can add a few more things. If the bigger cards were cheaper, I would have no trouble going out and buying more download games but because you basically pay more than $1 per GB I'm only limited to physical games. I can get a 16 GB micro SD card, an adapter, AND a reader for less $8 or less in a few places, why can't they learn from places like these?

I think the problem is that people THINK its an anime-centric system....

Vanelan : I would definitely think that too if i hadn't already had years of experience with the console. I can go into any Gamestop, and ill see a Spiderman game, a need for speed game, persona 4 games, freedom wars and terraway, then the rest are all anime games that I either never heard of, or I can't even pronounce the names of. Even if I look at a few pre orders, some of the most hyped games also happen to be anime based. If people actually saw what the vita was about, then they'd probably change their minds.

I still haven't bothered to buy a PS Vita due to the lack of quality games it has besides the remakes like Persona 4 Golden and Final Fantasy X Remastered. If there were more games for the Vita that interested me and memory cards weren't so dang expensive, I'd buy one because the handheld itself looks great, but the memory card cost and the fact that Sony's pretty much abandoned it for the PS4 make the Vita a failure.

gamerforlifeforever : Actually there are a ton of quality games for it, but the system gets almost no coverage. Check Amazon or GameStop's website (or PlayStation Store from a PC) and you'll see a lot of good ones, though it's a lot more niche than PS4 for example. There's a little something for everyone if you look close enough. I will give you that the 3DS has a much larger library though, and it may not have a lot of games that appeal to you personally, which is the problem I have with 3DS. Basically if you've been a fan of the kinds of games that PSX-PS3 offered (especially PSX and PS2) then you'll love the PS Vita. Just don't expect a heavy Western influence like CoD (even though it has a CoD and a Killzone game) or Battlefield, because while there are some, it's mostly more Japanese like Freedom Wars, Atlier games, Fantasy Hero: Unsigned Legacy, etc. It does have some Western though.

Also the classic PSX games you can get were a big pull to me: Dino Crisis, Harvest Moon: Back To Nature, Klonoa: Door to Phantomile, and so many more all in a single handheld? Yes please. Lol But yeah, the system feels like a PlayStation through and through, so it all comes down to how much that appeals to you. The only downside really is the memory card prices. I actually spent $80 on a 60GB card imported from Japan because I knew I would need the space.
