I'm working on adding a feature to the Video Game Music Room that'll allow staff to add keywords to songs. In order to get ideas on what keywords to add, I wanted some feedback for ideas of keywords that would work for some

I was thinking of maybe "Battle" for RPG's, or maybe adding "Final Boss" even though we could just use "Boss" instead of adding another keyword. I've also noticed short sound effects in some of the VGM's pages, so perhaps we could add the keyword "Sound" or "Jingle".

LunarDarkness2 : We can do both 'Final Boss' and 'Boss'. If a song is a final boss then both of those keywords could be tagged on it.

That's a good idea for the short sounds.

Staff : That'd be great if some of you could help out with ideas.

If music isn't sortable by length, you could do "long" and "short". If I think of any more I'll just edit this post. You have a lot of good tags already.

Maybe "Classical" or "public domain". I don't know what you'd call it exactly, but a lot of games just used publicly available music that they turn chiptune. Lemmings, for example.

Since you have "title", you could have "ending" for ending themes.

Linkums : It currently is sortable by length but those tags. A "long" tag could be used for really long songs though, ones that are 5 minutes or longer. Classical is a good one, especially since a lot of games tend to use or remix Classical songs such as Lemmings.

Ending is a good one.

Vanelan : I like the chip idea, though I doubt many will know what they are.


Another potential idea, "epic".

Vanelan : Awesome list. I just merged it with mine. I didn't use some of your vague keywords like modern, retro or chiptune since they're too vague and would apply to too many songs. The rest are great though and should also spark ideas for other potential keywords.

Actually thinking about it more, some of those vague keywords would be best if added to an entire game rather then each individual song.

Linkums : Things like "Epic" could be their own category, maybe a "Describing" category. A good keyword that I added to the list. If you think of other words that people tend to use when describing a song, feel free to list them off.

Linkums : True, but if the tags are used for google searches, then someone might find vizzed that does know of those different types.

Vanelan : I made the correction. Thanks for letting me know. The FM Sound Chip is one that I might go ahead and tag sometime in the near future since we have a lot of SMS FM songs and it'd be great to finally have a way to filter through those.
