This month's Speed Run competition is for 'Sonic the Hedgehog 2' for the Sega Genesis / Mega Drive. You can play it here:

The point of this competition is to beat the game as fast as you can.


VIDEO REQUIRED: You must must use either the RGR Plugin's built in video recording or an external program to record the gameplay and then upload that video to the Vizzed YouTube account.

RULES: You MUST play the game using the RGR Plugin in 'Timetrial Mode' and take a screenshot of the ending screen by pressing F6 when you've completed the game. To play in 'Timetrial Mode', scroll down the page where it shows the Speed Runs, you'll see a link that says 'Click Here to Compete for Speed Run', click that. Once you've taken your screenshot, click the link near that one that says 'Click Here to Submit your Speed Run' to submit your speed run.

You cannot cheat or use glitches of any sort.


Prizes:
1st = 50,000 Viz or 5 Raffle Tickets
2nd = 30,000 Viz or 3 Raffle Tickets
3rd = 10,000 Viz or 1 Raffle Ticket

Raffle Tickets let you redeem steam games of $10 value and they are stackable.


Trophy Award
This is a newly added feature. The user who wins this competition will get a special trophy item added to their Vizzed Market inventory. Users will be able to display all the trophies they've earned on their profiles (when I'm done remaking them).

I can't find the "click here to compete for speed run" anywhere... I've looked several times and I just cant find it..

Besides that I cant get the screen to show on chrome and the game is 1/4 res on firefox.. So fun times.. I'm aware these are fixable issues... just at nearly midnight I don't have the patience to fix them at the moment,

Hopefully I can do better at this one than I did at the bomberman one (I couldnt even complete the game ) so I'll be trying harder at this one.

Just for clarity, are the raffle tickets to be redeemed on Steam itself, or for Steam codes in the new Vizzed Market?

m0ssb3rg935 : For Steam Codes in the Vizzed Market. It'll probably all make more sense once I'm done giving the Raffle Tickets full functionality.

Hm not a big fan of the video requirement, especially with my current internet connection. And I assume without entering codes into the soundtest first it'd take too long to get super sonic lol. That's the real way to do a speedrun of this game. I might give it a personal go, but probably wont be able to make a submission. Good luck to the rest, though.

well then... I will have a hard time completing this one... I never made it past death egg without cheating but I will try my best.

Such a shame. I'm vising my apartment this week so I have better Internet. Figured I'd give the video thing a shot since I haven't done it in ages. With 50mbps connection, quad core processor, and 8gb of RAM the game was lagging for me the entire time during the recording process. I lived with it. 70 minutes later ... End of Wing Fortress Zone. Not a boss you can beat while lagging. Not to mention I'm not sure I've ever done it before without Super Sonic. Gave up before running out of lives. All that aside I'll have to take my initial stance on the video requirement. Converting it/ deleting it seems like a shallow dream since my machine freezes just from right clicking the file. I'm not sure why. 22GB is a large file, but not the end of the world. 
At the very least at the end of all this I was able to confirm it takes much longer to get super sonic legitimately before proceeding compared to just speeding through zones. So if anyone else wanted to do that... don't. lol

Has anyone found a way past the no video problem? I only hear sound

Is it okay if I don't use the RGR Plugin and use my own emulator instead? I can still provide an ending screenshot and video of the entire play through. I just can't run Firefox and the RGR emulator while it is recording all at the same time without the emulator dropping frames left and right.

And as a side note: No glitches? I understand not using internal/external cheats, but glitches usually are acceptable in speed running. Is it just to keep it to mastery of actual game play mechanics?

bigger0gamer : Your own emulator can't submit the speed run to the game page, so it has always been required. As for the glitches, these competitions was always supposed to be about skill with the game in the way it was meant to be played, not a competition as to who can manipulate glitches the best.

rcarter2 : Those both make sense. Though I won't be able to submit with the RGR (because I can't record on the RGR without massive frame loss) but that fine.
