(close this if there is already a thread about it. I searched and couldn't find one)

So, the new call of duty: infinite warfare trailer launched on the second of may. Currently, 14-5-16 it now has over 2 million dislikes (including me!) with only 346.311 likes.

Meanwhile the new battlefield trailer (Battlefield 1, which is gonna be based on the first world war) has nearly 1 and a half million likes, and only 26 thousand dislikes! (I liked it)

I want to mention that  I really like some CoD games, CoD 2 is my favourite FPS of all time (a WWII game)  Because its atmosphere  is something I have never seen matched in any other FPS game.

Now, why? Well first of all the new CoD game's concept, its gonna be ANOTHER futuristic cod game. It has run its course for sure now, and for someone that hasn't played much of the new CoD games (a bit) I have to say it looks like the exact same thing.

2. The trailer was pretty bad. Even if the game concept itself was good, that doesn't change that I think (and many others) that the trailer itself was just not very well made.

there are other factors, obviously, but i'm not going to go in to them very much.

I want to talk about why the battlefield trailer did so well.

1. Its a new concept. Sure I love WWII games but there are a LOT of WWII games. Now how many AAA WWI games are there? Yup, not too many.

2. People like to jump on the bandwagon. While the majority of people actually liked the trailer because it was good. (at least I like to think so) there also those people that like to jump on the bandwagon and hate COD and like battlefield (Which also has some effect in why the COD trailer was hated so much)

Your thoughts on this?

Not so long ago I would have laughed my head off at this and taken a jab at CoD here, but I've changed a bit since then thankfully --though I did smile at the title. Hey, I'm a work in progress.

As I recall, Black Ops III was rather successful and all that, but it caught a ton of hate from gamers initially. I think that's partly due to what you pointed out --bandwagon jumpers. Hating CoD and calling it lame is the cool thing to do now...then the haters go and buy it and play it in secret. Lol

And perhaps people are tired of CoD rehashing things, or overusing a certain concept (though I've never played CoD at all, so I can't say). Then again, the series has an entry every year and has been running since the PS2, so how much more is left that they haven't already covered? And something people have to understand is that demanding a new entry every year takes away valuable time that could have been spent CHANGING THE GAME. And while we don't see people writing Infinity Ward demanding another game next year, we are telling them that we want this business model of yearly releases when we snatch it up every year --and the fans do.

So I would say it's a bit of a mix of disgruntled fans, bandwagon jumpers, and fans of other FPS games disliking it. Though I would like to point out that fans of CoD as a whole have seemed to be losing interest for a while now. IW needs to step it up, quickly.

Hello. sir. I believe that trailer was hated because it was Call of Duty related. I haven't played those games, but I know of the franchise's huge periphery hatedom. I'm not saying it's wrong for you, or anyone, to like these games, I'm just stating the facts. Personally, I hate fan haters and trolls on YouTube.

Eirinn : Yeah, pretty much. But hating CoD has gotten less popular since a few years ago.

Ultrajeff : Like I said, hating CoD was really not that ''cool'' anymore, not since Black Ops 2. so wile it might have had an effect, in no way is it the biggest reason for the massive dislike bombing for the new trailer. So, no, it was not a ''fact''.

I think CoD is just played out now. It may have started as a good series, but with all the DLC BS,the releasing the same game year after year, the Xbox Live jerks, and the new setting,I am not surprised it took a beating. CoD needs to be put down. No series lasts forever, ask Duke Nukem.

Like has been said hating on CoD is the main stream thing to do still. The games aren't really bad, they're usually well polished with high production values and from my limited experience tends to have more stable launches than many other AAA games like Battlefield. They just don't really change things up much. They still sell more than games with much longer development cycles though so to some extent it's people's fault for buying into it. I don't expect this will be any different in that regard despite the amount of dislikes. All those people crying about wanting something closer to a WW2 game will probably still pick it up. Of course if you know that and accept it I suppose it's fine. I mean it's people choice what games they want to like. Most people just jump the bandwagon to look cool often times not even having tried a CoD game. The thing that really turns me off, not just from CoD but games like Battlefield too is the ridicolous microtransactions, they pretty much break the game for me.

The same can be said for the Pokemon games really having nearly yearly installments too where very little is changed, explore a region/get 8 gym badges etc. I'd say arguably it takes even less risks and just remakes a lot of the same games. If people's reason for hating on them is not being innovative they should hate on the Pokemon games as well if not more. Of course that's more controversial to say because the franchise is closer to heart for a lot of people, often having grown up with it. So people treat it like it's different when it isn't. Double standards plain and simple.

Most people say they hate it because its too futuristic now, but what's the point in doing that if they're also going to get modern games from now on as well?

Saying the same for Pokemon wouldn't be bad, because its true, I grew up with Pokemon yet I skipped a Gen so that I could wait for more new things.

I'm not real big on things like Call of Duty and other FPS games. Sure I play them on occasion but they're not my main type of games. So my opinions on this will be based on what I've seen. It seems like people want Call of Duty to go back to its roots. They want WWII type of stuff, not something in space. The reason why people are liking Battlefield is because it's what COD players want. They don't want some unrealistic space shooter. They want a war game.

I'll be honest. I just watched the trailer and it doesn't look that bad. But still the game isn't what the fans want, which as stated is a war game. They have a lot of potential to for exploring past wars so I don't understand the continued usage of futuristic games. At this point the only way for the fans to get what they want is to just not buy this new COD. Buying it only tells the creators that what they're doing is fine.

imamonster : I am pretty sure you are just saying that based on your own opinion and what you remember from the time. COD is still just as hated as it was before by people including me. I mean I only get one COD game like every 4 years just because they might have changed something by then.

I have an idea that they will keep making the main cods futuristic and keep remastering these old cods and require that you pay $80 for the main cod to access the remaster. I like cod,but everything i liked about the old cods is gone so I have  no intentions on getting any future cod unless it is boots on the ground or they remaster Black Ops 1  and the bundle drops to $60.

btw, most people only hate on cod because it is popular to do so, not for the fact that cod has lost its touch and abandoned what made the game fun,

Did I say "fact"? I meant to say the very popular opinion of the vocal majority who never played these games. Sorry if I came off as pretentious. Speaking of which, why do you assume people are up in arms over this game's trailer?

The futuristic junk and also the fact you have to buy it to get COD4 remastered (which will be lost of its feeling) I think that is why...
...I don't play any COD other than COD4, the fact they're re-releasing the discs again as a bundle, might mean more COD4 users in a few days' time heehee

COD has turned from a simple shooter to now space rubbish...

Sir, that was a rhetorical question (and sarcasm). And by "up in arms", I was asking you why you think this Call Of Duty game is unusually disliked compared to the others.  Besides, why does a trailer, for a Call of Duty game, getting over 2 million dislikes even matter? If you loved this franchise, you wouldn't really get so worked up over a trailer and internet backdraft. You probably should just play the game instead of waste your time complaining about something trivial like dislikes on a YouTube video.

Ultrajeff : I was really tired when reading your post so I didn't read it correctly.

Anyway I disagree. If you love the franchise you want it to be good, right? I really like some cod games and I want it to be good.

If you're passionate about something you'll out your opinion.

EDIT: grammar issue.

Long story short.... Ignore the haters. Play the game. You don't have to care about those guys, especially if they concoct such a strong, negative reaction from you. Anyways.... you are quite young. how long have you been playing COD?
