It has been about two weeks since I was interviewed to become a camp counselor at the YMCA for the summer. I believe the interview went pretty well. I DID send the hiring manager a thank you / follow-up email, fewer than 24 hours after my interview.

However, the hiring manager never called or emailed me back, regarding what the next steps would be, even though he said either way, if I was a good fit or not, I would get an answer. He did NOT specify a time frame, however, so I just used my two week rule.

I never had this happen to me before.

Should I send another email/call him again to ask about what's going on? If so, what should I say? Help?

I personally would call the hiring manager. At the very least speak to him directly to find out. Sending an e-mail would more than likely get ignored. A phone call is direct and to the point. At least you'll know pretty quickly either way.

xxeliza321xx : To be polite, don't be side or do things you know are rude. To be professional, be sure to not show up like a pile of garbage. If you do those things you have a chance of being hired.

Hope that helped ^^

Just call and say you are following up on the position you were interviewed for because it has been 2 weeks since you were interviewed and you have not heard anything back. It is really as simple as that.

And regardless of what he says thank him for his time. Obviously if he says yes be excited but I imagine this call is to find out you didn't get it so be polite about not getting the job.

I would go with what George said. At least this way you will know if you have the job or not. And do thank him for his time and consideration, even if you do not get the job. Show that you have manners and class, even if the answer is negative.

xxeliza321xx : I know what it,s like to apply for a job and not get hired having been down that same road myself it can be a bit frustrating especially when it,s a job that you really want because you never know how many other people are applying for the same position but at least you can say that you tried.don,t give up,if something else comes up try again and hopefully you will get hired when I was unemployed I had to apply at a few different places and go to a few job interviews before I finally got hired

That's too bad that you didn't get the job.  Did you ask why or what you could have done differently so you can improve for next time?  Throw that out there and see what they have to say so you can make improvements and adjustments with the interview process.

Were you looking at anything else.  Most YMCAs need help at the front desk level and with volunteer coaches and referees.  Maybe they have something else available for you so you can get some experience and learn and develop your career goals and expectations.

Too bad you weren't hired.  Keep at it and go get the next one.

I am sorry,Eliza. That does happen a lot and that does suck, believe me. I do agree with Ghost, those would have been good follow up questions. Also,do thank him for his time even if you did not get the job. Also, keep a record of where you applied to,that way you can avoid doubling up and you know when you applied for a job.

That seems to be a common trend these days.

By that I mean a lack of respect from employers when it comes to applicants for job roles.

I feel it is a complete lack of respect to not let someone know if they got the role or not. That is all I have to say on that matter

Sorry you had to go through this to find out Eliza, but at least you know the answer now I suppose.

Good luck for the future applications.

It's a common rule of the thumb (at least in here) that if you don't get a call within 1 week (or 5 business days), it's most likely that you didn't get the job. HR has this habit of not disclosing the results of your application unless you asked. But yeah, 1 week seems to be the common limit. Just apply to maaany many more jobs and try not to dwell on this one. Just think of it as a chance to improve yourself and prepare better for next time.
