I've created some new tags which can be used to hide content from users of various powerlevels. This will be great for when we want to post content which is intended to encourage guests to sign up. It'll also be great for when a trusted user or a staff member have a link or additional content they want to add to a conversation without giving away sensitive information. It'll also be great in situations where users need to submit stuff or vote on things where the thread creator doesn't want other users to see what the other users are saying or voting for (for example, in the Vizzed Awards, if someone didn't want others to see who they were voting for).


The tags include:
[user]This content is hidden from guests[/user]
[trusted]This content is hidden from non-Trusted users[/trusted]
[staff]This content is hidden from non-Staff users[/staff]
[moderator]This content is hidden from non-Moderator users[/moderator]
[administrator]This content is hidden from non-Administrator users[/administrator]

And here's what they look like in action:

If you want to see how the user tag appears for guests then simply view this thread as either a guest by signing out or by using a different internet browser.

Eventually other portions of the site will support these tags (and actually there may be non-post related content that already does but not sure). If you have any questions or suggestions, please let me know.

This is awesome! I'll definitely be using this a ton! It'll also be a great way for users to communicate concerns to staff+ members if needed, which I think will be a really beneficial addition to posting.

I like how the tag restriction for users has a link to either Register or Login. I'm foreseeing many guests registering out of curiosity to see what they are missing.

EDIT: Okay, failed more than horribly. Still, I like how it looks, and while the summon fails it somehow is a private reply on itself.

Summoning wouldn't work inside of it but other tags should work inside of it.

This is awesome, it's going to be a lot easier to make certain threads in certain places now because of this and some people might even have to make fewer threads than they normally would by alloweing hidden content.

I think this is just grounds for possible abuse. I can just see people using this to plot and for people to act like they are above it all. Trust me,all it does is encourage idiots to meet behind closed doors,act like it is for everyones good,and then run amok. It would not encourage membership,after all they can play games without registering.

Oldschool777 : Plot? I highly doubt it. Staff can see those tags, if you're going to plot better do it via PM or outside this site or we will be able to track it.

I can see why would it be abuse, but it would be a futile try, once again because we can keep track of them. Also, I wouldn't mind seeing PMs sent to the Local inbox regarding the double check of these tags to make sure they don't contain anything abusive.

There will be no plot, man. These tags aren't that restrictive, after all. If someone makes a bad use of them, he/she will get punished. And as I said, you're free to ask for a double check on these tags, either PMing the local inbox, myself or any other mod.

Oldschool777 : This is beneficial beyond the games. I doubt this will be used a ton so you don't have to worry about that.

Literally almost any new feature can be abused and that's where modifications come in. If I see it getting abused, I make adjustments. If needed, I can limit it to staff only.

I would like to think so,but I have seen this before. It always ends in a huge fallout. You would be right that if you are going to be all cloak and dagger,do it in private or over an Apple product. I want to believe you,really,but I have seen people let the power go to their heads and they think they are above it all. Maybe I am just cynical.

Wow, I almost forgot about these tags!

I noticed something different in the opening post, and found out what it was in the replies I've missed while I was away. It's nice to have moderator tags as well, the staff tags weren't restrictive enough to be the top option.

The only thing I'm wondering about is: what color has the administrator tag in action? Because I personally liked the red color of staff that I remember on the un-edited version of this thread.

Also, I'd like it so that you can only use the tag if you are at or above the tag. It makes no sense for someone to make an admin tag if they aren't admin and can't even see what they wrote :v.
