PBG reference in the title aside, hi guys, it's AwesomeTrinket again! Today I'm writing a review about a childhood game that I love, and I play it regularly on our arcade emulator. I would play it on Vizzed but I can't here. :/ But anyway, I decided to write a review about this game, because I regularly play it start to finish and can't stop. Almost every chance I get I play Penguin Brothers, so I know quite a lot about it!

Graphics - 10

Let me kick off this review with this: The graphics are really good. I've compared it to a lot of arcade games I play. The graphics vary a lot with the arcade, unlike with the Atari 2600 or the Philips CD-i (With the exception of Zelda's Adventure. So far, I've yet to see a live-action game for the CDI.)  This is one of the more unique graphics. It gives you an idea of it possibly being a 3D game if Subsino were to make a sequel.

Rabbit does look really good, but Penguin Brothers is honestly a little better. You can see a lot of details with the way its crafted. The shading is done well, the colors blend in together. Overall, I love the graphics. It's very pretty and easy on the eyes. Not really much to say here, other than it's simply lovely.

Sound – 8

It’s very nice. The sound will vary every "world" starting from world 1 and ending at the seeeecret round, hehehe. There are two things that I want to talk about: Sound effects and the music. Get ready for a somewhat long section for this.

The sound effects for when you throw a bomb sounds quite realistic, just not as loud. Think of a ketchup packet. Now grab both ends of the ketchup packet and twist it so a twist forms in the middle. Keep twisting it until it explodes. The bomb kind of sounds like that "POP!" noise when the ketchup packet explodes. ( NOTE: Don't really make a ketchup packet explode. The ketchup will get on walls and ceilings, basically everywhere.)

For every world, the background music will be different. From worlds 1 to 6, though, the song that plays when you encounter the boss is the same. The seeeeecret round has a different boss theme.
I would describe it, but I'm pretty sure I'd waste some time typing down a lot of do's and I could be using that time writing parts of this review. If anyone knows if the Penguin Brothers soundtrack has been uploaded to the Soundtrack section of Vizzed, let me know so I can put a link to it in this review!

Addictiveness - 10

The simplest things are the most addicting. Why do you think so many people like Minecraft? That's why I'm so addicted to Penguin Brothers. Not that it's a childhood game - I could say that an extremely complex game is addicting because my Dad and I used to play it all the time as a kid - best Dad ever, I tell ya - but because it's so simple that even 5 year old me could complete it with relative ease, and as long as Mom played with me - also best Mom ever - we could get to the ending and the seeeeeeecret round.

Story - 2

This game is in Japanese. I don't know Japanese. I don't know the story. However, from watching the cutscenes, I think I can make out a story. Let me write it down here. For those of you who speak and write Japanese, tell me if I'm accurate:

Ping and Peng (I'm calling the green one Ping and the pink one Peng so I don't have to say "the green one" or "the pink one" all the time) were normal penguins that lived in Antarctica, the two brothers living on their peaceful little iceberg they call Coo Da. SUDDENLY, WHALE. The whale ends up throwing a box of bombs near Peng.

While Peng was checking it out, the whale dived back to the bottom, unintentionally causing a massive wave. This shattered their iceberg, the force of the wave sending them and the bombs flying through the air, and they land in the world we play in. They have to find their way back home, using the bombs. I won't write down the small cutscenes after you beat the bosses because my thumbs hurt and I'm lazy.

Warning, the next half of this has spoilers in it, so don't read if you don't want spoilers.

Finally, they defeat the lava lizard thing (If you're like me and play from 1 to 6, then you defeat the lizard last) but suddenly, WHALE COMES AGAIN. The whale throws them into a secret lair by accident, where a mysterious character wearing a gas mask appears. Ping asks who he is, and then gas mask guy says "Your death." Peng doesn't believe him, so gas mask guy says, "You will never go back to Coo Da!" The shadows disappear, revealing that gas mask guy is wearing white and green armor and his gas mask is green.

They fight him. However, gas mask guy doesn't even seem like he's trying. He stands on a platform and throws bombs at them. Ping and Peng defeat them with ease. Ping tells gas mask guy, "We will go back to Coo Da!"  Gas mask guy gets up and shouts, "You dare think that you will escape me and free everyone?! You must die!" (Wand of Gamelon reference woooo!)

They fight him again, only this time his head comes off and grows tentacles! Still, they defeat him. Peng even takes a crack at him and says, "You dare think that you will stop us from going home?! YOU MUST DIE!" Gas mask guy says "I am the ruler of this world! You will not stop me! Everyone is my SLAVE!" His head, without the mask, pops up to reveal that he's a pig.

Ping and Peng defeat him once and for all. The monsters are broken from his mind spell and they crown Ping the ruler of the world for defeating gas mask guy! However, it seems like gas mask guy survived! He says, "No matter what happens, no matter how long, no matter who I encounter, we will find each other again, brother." Gas mask guy looks up, to reveal, underneath that mask and his robe, Peng was smiling.

Depth - 3

Phew. My fingers are tired from writing that. There's not much depth, you run around, jump, throw bombs, avoid attacks, etc. etc. There's not much to do.

Difficulty - 3

Not much to say here, just look at the depth.

Overall - 6

Overall without the difficulty - 6.6

This is a very good game! I recommend that you play it if it works on Vizzed for you! If not, oh well, I'm sorry, try to make it work and play this game as soon as possible. Seriously, this is coming from a girl who doesn't really care if something she doesn't quite care about (Looking at you, Superman 64) doesn't work. I'm legitimately trying to make this work, even as I type this review. That's it for this review, I hope you play Penguin Brothers soon!

Hey, good review here! I would feature it were it not for the spoilers, but know that it's quality enough for a featured spot. Keep up the good work!

Vanelan : Sadly, no. I just went the way that I take only if a game doesn't work on Vizzed and I can't get it working, which is downloading it on MAME.
