Some of you were wondering if FireRed and LeafGreen were the same, well they are not.

FireRed contains Pokémon's that LeafGreen does not have and vice versa.

Example: In LeafGreen, you don't have a big chance to catch a Nidoran but in FireRed, you have more chance to catch one.

In LeafGreen, depending on the area, you have more chances to have a bug Pokémon and in FireRed, you have more chance to get a normal Pokémon.

Don't ask me why. GameFreak said that.

I hope this thread helped some of you.

Yes Pokemon Leafgreen and Firered may very well be two different Pokemon games although I'm not entirely sure why that's the case. My theory is that it is a scheme to get you to pay more to collect them all which isn't very generous of Nintendo to do so. Still Pokemon Firered and Leafgreen are excellent Pokemon entries that both deserve a try.

Wow that is really interesting, I just thought there were only different by the fact that one had Pokémon the other did not. Thanks for telling us this.

I always knew about the differences in Pokémon being obtainable and chances to find them, but is that the only difference? It seems like a poor excuse for making 2 different versions if that's the only thing that's altered between them. Like someone previously said, it's obviously a tactic of Nintendo to force you to buy the other version also, or at least their trading cables and other accessories. That's why the catch phrase was always "Catch'em All", since you had to spend more than simply buying the game to do so...

Mynamescox44 :
Personally, I don't know, this is all I could find about those two games, maybe is there more then just having different Pokémon's???
Either way, its still a mystery
But, like austipokedude said: Maybe Nintendo made a copy just to have some money

I remember playing both games and from what I remember there isn't a difference other than the Pokemon you find. I just looked it up and yeah what I thought was right. It isn't like the newer games where there is a different legendary between the versions or even a different are(Black and White had one town that was different). So yeah. There is that difference but that's the only difference that exists. There's really no need to play both, just pick the one with Pokemon you like more.

I already know the differences with the game. firered has pokemon that leafgreen doesn't have and that's the same for leafgreen. This was how it got people to either trade to get those pokemon or to make them play the game. They both have similarities the same storyline its just the pokemons that are different and not all the same as said. It makes sense to pick the one you play more, but you know people....they want to catch them all? I wasn't a big fan of firered back in the day I liked leafgreen a whole lot more because of what it had to offer to me. People are different so not everyone is going to stick to, that one pokemon game if you get what I mean. :/

I thought it was common knowledge that when two titles release simultaneously for pokemon each title has different Pokemon not found in its significant other. The only pokemon game where you can truly catch them all in one game is Pokemon yellow. But Nintendo did make pokemon this way to encourage trading and battling  among pokemon players  and so that you'd buy a link cord or wireless adapter(at the time)  or a game shark(hacking device) but really it was made like this to encourage interaction between players in my opinion.

I still consider it to be the same game. Those differences are very minor, percentages dont change the game unless if they are drastic. It would be more of a remake than a different game to be honest...
