Which is your favorite so far - N64, Game Cube, etc?

I haven't tried the latest 2 for the Gameboy systems yet, but out of the first 3, I'd have to say the Game Cube version is by far my favorite. For anyone who has tried the latest 2, please tell me what you think of it. I'm tempted to buy one just to try the game but not sure if I want to commit to it.

It's hard to pick a fav since I've enjoyed all the Paper Mario I've played. If I had to choose, I would go with N64 Paper Mario, but I've yet to play the "Mario and Luigi" Paper Jam game on 3DS. I've really grown to love the Mario + Luigi series over the years and I think this will be a cool twist.

Take this with a grain of salt because I've never really loved turn-based systems, but my favorite of the bunch has to be Super Paper Mario. It's easily the most linear of the ones I've played (can't speak for Sticker Star or Mario and Luigi: Paper Jam), but I actually love the real-time shift in battling, making for some pretty interesting bosses and enjoyable gameplay as a whole for me.

And, I don't think even people who hate the game can argue that its OST is pretty fantastic as a whole.

Other than that, I can't really say anything specific as to why I like the game; even in the story case, it's a hit at some points, and a miss at others. The ending, Sammy's Kingdom, and beginning of the game? Hit. The Sapling Factory, and general mid-game story? Miss.

Jordanv78 :  Have you played the Sticker Star one, and how was it?

I've started playing the 64 one on this site (which was my motivation for registering). I love it! The glitches frustrate me to no end lol, but it's a small inconvenience for being able to enjoy it once again. So maybe my opinion will change after haha.

SWTerra : I love SPM, but to be honest, I was a bit reluctant about the real-time fighting. I guess I was used to the "turn-fighting" (if you can call it that haha) but it's grown on me. I also didn't know what to think of the pixelated-type partners, and I found the final boss (Bleck) was easier to beat than Dark-Peach. However, I loved the storyline more in Super PaperMario.

I only played the one for the nintendo 64. Even though I never actually beated it, I really enjoyed playing it. I think ninendo should make more mario RPGs in the future.

Final Weapon : I'm playing that version on vizzed currently, and I love it. So much nostalgia lol!

If you get the opportunity, I really recommend the other versions of Paper Mario. There's also a Mario RPG version that's for Super Nintendo (I'm hoping to try that one out in the near future as well).

I grew up playing The Thousand Year Door, although I never beat it and since I borrowed it from a friend, I don't have it anymore. I'd love to buy it sometime and play it again. I remember it was really fantastic.

taterii : Amazing game! Doesn't look like they have it on here, but they do have the one for 64 up (which I'm currently playing). The graphics glitch something fierce, but it's still a lot of fun.

I haven't tried Sticker Star though from what I've seen the reception for it was lukewarm at the absolute best. If Colour Splash DOES go the Sticker Star route, I at least hope they make combat meaningful. I enjoyed Super Paper Mario though I found the backtracking a little bit frustrating since I didn't enjoy the more platformer feel the game had as much. Paper Jam is actually hilarious because of how easy game breaking glitches are to perform (Seriously, if you can run into a rock and wiggle back and forth a bit you can just clip right out of bounds.) Now, to get back on topic my favourite is Thousand Year Door. The combat is WAY more polished than it is in 64, to the point where replaying the original is a bit harder nowadays, and I adored some of the chapter mini stories SO much in thousand year door. Namely 3, 4 and 6, whereas in the original it was really only 4 and the beginning of 7.

I loved Thousand Year Door. I've got so many hours of time in it, just collecting everything, finishing all the troubles, and making every recipe. The turn-based combat system was great, and the badge combinations made for a huge amount of strategic decisions.

Well I would go for the original 64 one because even though I never owned it, one of my cousins had it and made me soon later in the future go to emulators to give it a shot which I really enjoyed playing all the way to the end.  I liked the alternate direction taken as an rpg section for Mario which for one we have the bros in an adventure and in paper it has some humor and it's entertaining to be moving around in a world of paper and cardboard.  I never really gone to Thousand Year Door or Super cause  I guess I've never really heard of them which is probably my fault of not using the internet that much during my gamecube-wii years which thankfully spared me from some of the, "lesser forms" of the internet.  Sticker Star was what I could call, a vacation from traditional which I didn't really well turned into complaining all the way to the end cause I'm not that blinded from my past in judging the future but some recent things that happened have crossed the line for me like with Rare losing itself to Microsoft or NDCube destroying something I liked which started at 2-3 and passed on to 4,7,8.  Really hating all the major bashing happening right now for their e3 especially for Color Splash.

I've only played the original N64 one, and from what I've played it's decent. I prefer the Mario and Luigi series to it, but I might be able to get behind it if I played the later ones. I did hear that TTYD is a GREAT gamecube game and a must have, so I'll keep an eye out for it. In the meantime I'll probably play the N64 one when I get time to do so.

The Thousand Year Door is the best game in the Paper Mario series. So many great memories. I love that game so much. I never beat it, though. I got to the last are of the game then the disc became too scratched up to play. I can't find another copy anywhere so if anyone has a spare copy they don't use....can I have it? Please?

The Thousand-Year Door is the best Paper Mario, and Paper Jam literally isn't a Paper Mario.

However Sticker Star is bad, really bad; it's not just bad as a Paper Mario installment, it's bad as a game.
Miyamoto made sure that all the creative characters were replaced with Toads, the game is level based which makes it feel like a cheap phone game. Also there is no level ups you just collect and buy Stickers. There is no reason to fight any of the enemies you can get everything you need outside of combat, and all bosses require you to find one special Sticker to defeat them, and that's it, the story is Bowser is evil.
Color Splash looks nearly the same, but it uses paint, apparently you can increase your paint and health, but it still doesnt reward you for battling as you can get paint outside of battle.

Mine is easily the game cube version. Its a solid RPG and I have beaten it inside and out. The pacing on the game is incredible, the turn based battling is fluent, the soundtrack is elegant. This game was next to flawless in my opinion and its one of my favorite games yet.

plasticinsanity : My favorite is a close call between Paper Mario: the Thousand Year Door, and Super Paper Mario. I love how the original games always tied up every loose end and even acknowledged that you completed the game and acheived your objective. In Paper mario sticker star, even after you beat the game, princess peach is still kidnapped. Why? Paper mario was awesome, even when they switched everything up in the third one they kept all the basic story elements intact. And each game you completed felt like such an accomplishment; it was so rewarding. Sticker star was a disappointment in this manner. It had plenty of great ideas and story bits, but it just feels as though they left it unfinished.

I've played the first two and I really love them, although I've heard that more recent entries to the series haven't been as fantastic, mainly due to a lack of strong RPG elements. Then again, like I said, I have never actually played them, so I'm just going off of what I've heard in reviews. If this criticism is true though, it would be a shame, because the original games had quite strong RPG elements that were deep, but not too obtuse for the average gamer to get into. It seems like Nintendo lowered the learning curve so much that there's not as much of a game left as there was with earlier entries in the series. Can anyone who has played the newer Sticker games on the 3DS attest to this?
