When Nintendo began working on this landmark title, they had no idea just how popular this landmark series would become.Developed alongside the ever popular Super Mario Bros, the legend of Zelda is an awesome game with plenty to offer, I will try to keep this review as thorough as possible we will begin with the story as to me that's very important in a game. Let's begin
Story wise, this game won't show much in the way of playing the game, that's why like all games, it came with an instruction manual, which provided the story. Long ago in the kingdom of Hyrule, there was princess zelda. The kingdom was a prosperous one, until a pig like monster, named Ganon (Gannon in this game due to technical limitations) invaded from out of nowhere in order to steal the triforce of wisdom, and use it alongside the triforce of power. With both tri forces in his possession, he would be unstoppable. The princess however, took precautions, namely splitting the triforce of wisdom into eight separate pieces and scattering to eight dangerous dungeons across a smal part of the kingdom. Next, Zelda entrusted her nursemaid, Impa to find someone who could stand up to Ganon and retrieve the pieces of the triforce of wisdom, as soon as Impa fled, Zelda was captured and taken to Death Mountain. Impa on the other hand was saved by a young, mysterious youth and she knew right away that this boy could stop Ganon, after she told him what had happened, the boy named Link (or you can just call him your own name, because he is a link to the player) promised to bring ganons reign of terror to an end and bring peace once more.
The graphics were a Beauty for their time, they were very colourful and vibrant and you could not take your eyes off it for a second. The characters movements were quite fluid for an eight bit game but that's what makes it a great game well part of it anyway, the colours were quite nice and the enemies often came in red blue and orange in most cases It feels like your part of the world and aside from the colours, there were other graphical qualities like dungeon statues, and the graveyard headstones and of course the triforce pieces and the monsters graphics are spot on. It is an awesome game and I think graphically, it was one of the best for the Nintendo Entertainment System, enough said.
The sound is limited somewhat by two song tunes one for the overworld that became as iconic as the series itself and the underworld tune when you visit the dungeons to defeat monsters and retrieve the piece of the triforce of wisdom at the end of the dungeon by defeating the boss. So I haven't got a lot to say about the sound music wise but I absolutely love the sound effects in this game, such as the footsteps when entering a dungeon or the stabbing sound when attacking an enemy, even the sound of getting close to the boss is a great sound but overall I don't have a lot to say about it sound wise so I will move on to the addictive
This game is addictive because it has a second quest that you can play after finishing the first quest or by entering Zelda in the name screen, you can go over the games various areas and you will see that there are extra hearts, old men that gamble or even rob you of your money and you can only carry 255 at a time and even the secret moblins that defected from Ganon and are hiding out in caves all around Hyrule and when you find them they will give you money in return for not revealing their hidden location, and they will utter the quote, " it's a secret to everybody" a quote that has become synonymous with the legend of Zelda series. If you want to get more powerful swords, you need more heart containers and u can get them by searching the overworld and beating the boss enemies. Therefore this game is a great start to the series and a great game to replay when you feel like it there are also loads of items that can help you in the game some of which can uncover hidden caves so the game is awesome in almost every way.
The depth of this game is what a lot of Zelda games would follow in the years to come. As I mentioned earlier there is a second quest and the opportunity to take a side quest to find more heart containers and a very large world to explore with multiple secrets to uncover and monsters to defeat, which will often drop rupees and the occasional bomb, which reminds me, in this game there are breakable walls that can be destroyed with the aforementioned explosives, even the bosses have distinct weaknesses that can be exploited , it's a large world and can be traversed in any way you want, and a first for games at the time, was a save system, a luxury that Super Mario Bros didn't have at all so this game has a unique advantage over this particular game and when you take the second quest, the map is mixed up a bit and the experience is harder and now for the final part, the difficulty.
This game can prove frustrating if you don't know where to go, but in hindsight that's pretty much the reason it was made the way it is, to keep player guessing, the bosses can be easily defeated if you are well equipped and have plenty of heart containers at your disposal, as a gamer with the proper equipment when I can find it, I usually have an easy time deleting the bosses like Digdogger, Gohma and Aquamentus but Ganon ( the nasty cheater) will turn invisible and attacking and defeating him is a matter of luck and good aim with special arrows, defeating both quests in the game is a very rewarding experience if I do say so myself so I will close the review by saying this is an incredible game and a must have for gamer and collector alike, for now this is Arwingstarfighter, signing off, see you next review guys
