Every February I host an RGR competition based on a Pokemon game where you have to try and fill up your Pokedex. Conveniently, this February is the 20th anniversary of Pokemon so some of the other competitions will be Pokemon themed as well. It can be a hack of a retail game but I definitely want a game that has a lot of Pokemon to catch and a game which could keep users competing for a good while (in other words, not a game where you can easily catch all of the Pokemon quickly).

We had a discussion about this last year so if you want to recommend a game that was recommended last year, go for it. Here's the thread:
https://www.vizzed.com/boards/thread.php?id=84265

Here's a list of all the games we've used in the past:
-Pokemon Dark Rising
-Pokemon Gold Emu
-Pokemon Flora Sky
-Pokemon Emerald 386
-Pokemon Expert Emerald (last year)

Staff : If any of you have a suggestion, please let me know.

I have two suggestions for this year.

Number one is Pokemon Glazed (beta 6). Despite its name, the game is mostly finished, with three full regions to explore and a lot of Pokemon to catch, including +40 Legendaries. Not a game you will finish quickly, trust me.

Number two is Pokemon Resolute 1.07. I tried this game months ago and is very long, with a bit of extra difficulty as well, so definitely not an easy game to beat. It also has Mega Evolutions available and a wide Pokedex.

I would personally go with Glazed, since I spent more than 60 hours to just finish the first region of Resolute, too much time for just a single month. It's been a while since I've searched for hacks to play, so I'll keep an eye open in this thread and see what other people recommends, maybe I'm interested in those games as well.

Personally, I'd like to see Pokemon Dark Rising II, since it's the sequel to one of the games that was done in a previous contest. Lots of Pokemon from each generation can be caught, and it's a tough hack, so I expect it to be tougher for people to do than the Pokemon Expert Emerald one from last year. https://www.vizzed.com/play/pokemon-dark-rising-ii-gba-online-game-boy-advance-77231-game

Either that or Pokemon Ruby Destiny: Life of Guardians. While it does have some fake pokemon in there, it's my personal favorite hack of all time. https://www.vizzed.com/play/pokemon-ruby-destiny-life-of-guardians-gba-online-game-boy-advance-43444-game

I'd say that Dark Rising II would be the best out of all the games mentioned because it has Pokemon from all 6 gens (not sure if the ones EX Palen mentioned do or not). Like it's predecessor, it's one of the tougher hacks out there, so people aren't going to find all the Pokemon really quickly. It's a massive game, with 12 gym leaders to beat, which should tell you how massive it's region is.

gamerforlifeforever2 : Glazed has three regions with 19 gym leaders and 3 champions (if I'm counting right). Two of the three are custom regions, and the other is Johto. It does have Pokémon from all six gens, and will definitely take a long time. It's also fairly difficult, and the enemy Pokémon will sometimes use even competitive setup tactics.

I also agree that Glazed should definitely be one to consider. I can also speak for Ruby Destiny, another very solid choice. The other two, I can't speak for, since I've never played either or.

SWTerra :
EX Palen :
I agree with both of you guys for Pokemon Glazed. That game is fairly big, and has a lot of Pokemon in there, so I think that is the best choice for this month's competition.
My second choice though, is Pokemon Catch Em All (FRLG Version) because it is Kanto, and has all original 151 Pokemon catchable. But I would rather have Glazed, as it is a far better game.

I recall seeing some issues with one of the Dark Rising Pokemon games in the RGR forum.
Do we know if these hacks work properly?

Vanelan : Glazed Beta 6 works completely fine, or at least did so in late 2014 and early 2015 when I finished it. I can run a test for it, seeing that my suggestion has some support.

I played Resolute after all the plugin updates, so I'm sure it works fine even if I myself don't fully support it for the many negatives it has, clearly outweighing the positives.

EX Palen : Well, I was just asking if we know they work all the way through and it is possible to get a complete Pokedex, just because I recall seeing something about someone getting stuck in one of the hacks, as I said in the other post.

As long as it works through to the end, it would probably be a good choice.
Just the word "beta" in the titles is what worries me a little.

Davideo7 : I'm not making a suggestion for the game, but have an idea. This month im stockpiling the Pokemon 20th anniversary Mew codes for people who can't get to a Gamestop, so if I have enough left over, I'll throw in a few to the winners if they want.

I've decided that I'm going to go with Pokemon Dark Rising II. Pokemon Glazed (beta 6) sounds really tempting but since it's in beta, I'd rather wait until it's no longer in beta before doing a competition with it.

Thanks for all of your feedback.

If I may have a last word, I would like to add this: http://www.pokecommunity.com/showthread.php?t=292279

The creator himself says that Beta 6 was basically the game, with minor things to be taken care of. He has also released Beta 7 since I last played it, so I'll try to find it and ask tRIUNE to add it.

I understand that you still prefer a complete game over it, but I feel sorry for everyone daring to participate if what I've heard about Dark Rising II is true.

That's cool!

I can see that the only major change in the new beta is the implementation of Mega Evolutions, which was being tested in beta 6, and Trainer Isle has been finally completed. This is the best proof that beta 6 was mostly finished.

I'm adding it to my list of projects, even if I already wrote something for beta 6.
