Even though I love Sonic this is the first time I ever heard about that one. Does anyone know if the rumor has been confirmed or denied? It never occurred to me to associate a pop artist with video games, and I do admit that the articles points towards amusing coincidences. But are they just that, coincidences?

lol, those guys sure were dedicated. The truth is, video games and even movies do this all the time, they take the instrumentals of songs and change them into their own versions for games. This is in fact happenening a lot lately as a way for artists to get more money after illegal music downloading affects how much they get.

You'd be surprises to know how many songs even by the rights to other songs so they can include parts from them.

Yeah I remember rumors about this a long while ago. It's confirmed to be true. Yes, Michael Jackson did help with the music of Sonic 3.

Pretty cool, right?

zanderlex : no doubt it's more frequent nowadays thanks to better technology - I wonder if the singer from Another World (FF X) is still popular. But for the 16-bit era? I mean, it took the PSX for Uematsu to get references from "pop" culture (Carmina Burana for One-Winged Angel).

I actually read through this article a few days ago and found it very entertaining. Not sure if it was true or not, but we always have the "Moonwalker" arcade game and Genesis port. lol

I would like to believe it. I only read maybe 3/4 of the article. There were a lot of possible connections and such, but like it said, it seems almost too good to be true. On the other hand, as incredibly popular as the sonic music is, I wouldn't be surprised if a composer such as MJ was behind at least playing a role in it's development. A lot of the tunes in Sonic 3 have that "catchy" feel that so much of his music did, only on a 16 bit scale. If it is true, it will only add to the legacy that is - Michael Jackson.
