The original Odin Sphere was a game that should've been a sleeper hit on the PS2. A 2D JRPG developed by Vanillaware who's also known for other games such as Dragon's Crown and Muramasa: The Demon Blade. Not too many people played it but most of the people who did love it for its unique looking art style, the deep mechanics, and complex storyline where it uses multiple characters to tell a story from different perspectives. I was one of those people who was fortunate enough to get to try the original game out on the PS2 and I loved playing it.

However while this game was mostly praised by critics the fact that it didn't do so well in terms of sales and slipped by relatively unnoticed is why it surprised me when it was announced last year that this game is getting not just a remaster but a full blown remake on the PS3, PS4 and PSVita this is after already having been ported to PSN in the US and Japan. Gameplay has been shown and it's been reported to fix pretty much the most common issues that stopped some from fully loving the game, mainly the sometimes fiddly controls and framerate drops due to the limits of the PS2 hardware. It's also adding new content mainly a few new game modes such as a boss rush mode and hell mode.

What's more, after little having been said about the possibility of a European release and the hope for one actually happening slowly fading it has more or less been confirmed a week ago that this game will be coming to Europe as well which I couldn't be more happy about it (makes sense that it would considering the game is loosely based on Norse mythology and all). More so considering we never got a port.

The game was released on the 14th in Japan and will be coming to NA on the 7th of June and hopefully to Europe sometime in June as well.

So if you were one of the few who played the original, are you excited for this game? To those new to it will you be getting it, or have me talking about it hopefully made you more interested in it at least?

I'm really glad that they're doing this. Based on how well Muramasa's remake did, I'm sure this one should be good enough to convince Vanillaware to do others, like GrimGrimoire, and maybe even either remake Dragon's Crown or give it a sequel. I'd love to see a sequel, and have it take place in Bolga instead of Hydeland.

I've actually been following this for a few months now, as it seems to pop up in gaming news every week or two for some reason. I knew nothing about it beyond what the screenshots look like and a little more vague information that the others are saying as they all apparently assume anyone interested in it will already know of the original, so I actually learned more from this thread than the other reports. However, based on what I've seen of it, I'm definitely keeping an eye on it.

Big fan of the original, granted it took me a really long time to get used to the combat. Was probably the game that got me interested in Vanillawares games, and probably my favorite rpg story for the ps2.Its just plain awesome to see it getting a remake and I'm really looking forward to the added stuff.
