If you want a movie that has a great story, then Point Break isn't the movie for you. If you want one of those guilty pleasure movies that look incredibly awesome, then this is just for you. I didn't fully like the movie because there wasn't much to it but it looked awesome.

The movie is about this guy nicknames Utah. He's an extreme athlete who watches his friend die during a bike ride and quits and later joins the FBI. He learns that a series of crimes are actually connected by a group of athletes and he joins them in order to get information on them and to stop them from committing the crimes that they were going. The effects are awesome and the stunts are insane. There's epic scenes from intense surfing to 5 minute long base jumping rides down a mountain, even free climbing a massive cliff.

There were a couple pieces that my friends said didn't add up which is why they didn't like it and I do kind of agree with it. Utah was supposed to bring the bad guy in, when they were climbing the cliff, Utah was behind him and an accomplish, who fell off. This was after Utah blew his cover and he was only climbing the cliff to get to him and arrest him, bug hr got away.

The next scene takes place a year or so later during a storm where the guy is trying to surf a massive wave. Utah climbs onto his ship from a helicopter and talks to him and eventually climbs back up into the helicopter and he let the bad guy surf. The only reason he would have done that was because he knew he would have died. But that defeats the purpose of doing what he was supposed to as an FBI agent.

But the movie was still amazing to look at.

What did you think of Point Break?

Just as you said, this is not a movie one watches for a great scenario that involves a lot of thinking. Sure, Utah and a few of the criminals do look handsome, but that does NOT make a movie. The extreme sport scenes are so unrealistic (like the jumping directly into that hole in Mexico), the moral so simplistic ("give back to the Earth") that I wanted to quit after 40 minutes. Honey like the gorgeous scenery from the Alps, though.

janus : Most of the stunts are based on things that have actually been done. For instance, that hole is a real extreme sports hot spot. People don't sky dive into it, but people do base jump from the top all the way down.

And the base jumping from the mountain, theres video proof of people base jumping from higher altitudes.

I just couldn't believe they remade this movie AGAIN. Although I'm not surprised. Pretty soon Hollywood is going to start remaking movies that came out 5 years ago...lol

I have pretty much zero interest in watching this other than maybe catching it if it comes on HBO and I have absolutely nothing else to do

Jordanv78 : Wait, again? I thought this was the only remake they made?

zanderlex : I originally was under the impression that the original movie was created off of an old TV show, but it seems like I was wrong in that.

Still though, I didn't really think that this was the type of movie that needed a remake, but again, I'm not surprised with Hollywoods history over the past 10 years or so.

Jordanv78 : They did change a lot though, so if it was made differently, it could have been a lot better. From what I read, the original was just about surfing while this one was about extreme sports in general.
